I agree that liberty excludes government force on honest citizens. I don't agree that your "monthly invoice" penalty/tax buys you additional coverage or solves anything. If cops aren't available, then it's an empty bill of sale, notwithstanding that SCOTUS rules that cops have no obligation to protect the public."Mandatory" -anything is counter to freedom, therefor I am against it. If I happen to CHOOSE to own a weapon and take responsibility for my safety then great. If I happen to CHOOSE NOT to own a weapon perhaps I should receive a monthly invoice for additional police coverage.
Mandatory purchase of health insurance is clearly unconstitutional. I think mandatory gun purchases would be also, but at least a gun is a tangible asset. Insurance has no value at all.I agree that liberty excludes government force on honest citizens. I don't agree that your "monthly invoice" penalty/tax buys you additional coverage or solves anything. There have been times when our colonial governments and new federal government mandated ownership of a military grade firearm with reporting to militia muster for inspection and registration.
The Nelson, GA proposal seems to be a strong suggestion rather than a good law. But while it's strange in modern society, it has historic roots in our American heritage.
Well, my answer is that I'm against the draft.Mandatory purchase of health insurance is clearly unconstitutional. I think mandatory gun purchases would be also, but at least a gun is a tangible asset. Insurance has no value at all.
I suppose I could support a state or local level militia that provides arms to its members. Mandatory militia membership appears the be the real question.
