When people read this story, no one blames the hammer. However, if instead of a hammer, it was a different object... a firearm... people then blame the gun. Why? Some will say, guns are more dangerous... you can do more harm with a gun. Well, his victims are dead. I don't know how to achieve more harm than that. Others will say, it's easier to commit these crimes with a gun. Is it? Over 90% of all violent crime in this country does not involve a firearm at all. Then others will say, you can achieve more mass killings with a gun – look at what has happened in all the mass killings with assault weapons. Is that accurate? The latest statistics we have are from 2011, and each year the numbers are about the same. In 2011 there were 323 people murdered with rifles in this country. Now keep in mind that is all rifles, “assault weapons" are a subset of those.” The FBI does not break down that data, but those murdered by “assault weapons” are measurably less. During that same time, 728 people were murdered by hands and feet. That does not include those that were murdered by clubs and hammers. And over 5 times as many were murdered by knives or cutting instruments.

So if all guns are used in less than 10% of all violent crimes, and all assault weapons murder less than half of those that are murdered by just hands and feet, not to mention clubs, hammers and knives, why is there all this dialog about, “gun violence”? Why in an identical murder case, people want to blame (i.e., legislate, control, outlaw, or just plain vilify) the object only when it's a gun?

"Gun violence" is a term used to undermine the 2nd Amendment.

It is a political instrument, no more or less.

However, should the Socialists succeed with their agenda, the term could be given a different, but highly accurate, new meaning.

We have all been lied to. Some have accepted those lies as the truth, while others did their own research. The single greatest tool that has facilitated these lies has been a well choreographed emotional manipulation, and that emotional manipulation is most effective when tied to a horrific event like Sandy Hook.

There was one parent in particular of a Sandy Hook student that was very vocal in his opposition toward any gun control - he was quickly silenced. The manner in which those parents and surviving students were manipulated and paraded around like puppets of a political agenda was unconscionable.

I'll meet anyone in the open field with a hammer-to-hammer contest, and I'll expect to get a little bloody. So be it. But, I will use a blunt force object to protect myself and my family and friends!

But, however, currently I perfer to just sit back and practice good sight alingment and trigger pull................... Let the J-A sling a hammer. But the times they are a changin...........................

Your gov't masters will not play fair in a hammer-to-hammer engagement, as they are slowely, and ever so slowely, making sure that they take your hammer, keep theirs, and you only have a stick.

The term 'Rights' are being redefined right now in the US Culture......................... As the Progressive/Regressive Left redefine your rights, the first to go are your 2A rights. Everything else is easy-peasy for them after that. Just ask P. Morgan (CNN) why he will not move back to the UK.......... Because he knows they are beyond the moral and sane tipping point of individual liberties.

Just saying...................

Gun Violence = a derogatory term used by the “news” media and the government to villainize an object rather than the criminal using it.

The answer is simple......

Violence is the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against a person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation. This definition associates intentionality with the committing of the act itself, irrespective of the outcome it produces.

If the above act is committed with a gun that is gun violence.....

I've argued with liberals ad nauseum that someone who dies via knife, bat, hammer, car, axe, feet, bare hands, etc. is no less dead than a person who dies via a gun. There is no moral high ground gained by being a defenseless victim or dying via a different inanimate object. Our God Given Rights were not intended to be at the mercy of the idiotic majority vote. If 51% of the people think everyone should get free income checks, not work, and get free food for life that doesn't make it either smart or right. That would end society as we know it (and we are well on our way with that issue also).

Though, from a certain perspective, a heavily-armed citizenry is the one hammer that can stop a tyrannical government. Unsurprising, that "they" want to ban "hammers."

Actually, a violent act committed toward a gun would be gun violence. Your semantics are skewed.

I believe your idea is correct, but only to a point.

The true intent is to demonize the sect of the populace that espouse their 2A rights to use guns for any reason. Those being the real obstacle to the progressive movement. Right now they are concentrating on the right to self defense. Next will be hunting or target shooting, etc. The ultimate goal is to make gun ownership an anti social disease.

Indeed. What is amazing is that those who don't favor the 2A and want to strip it from our constitution have every right to do so. All they have to do is get 2/3 the senate, 2/3 the house, and 38 states to agree and boom, you can dissolve it. Why don't they just do that? (Answer: because they can't) So they just try and chip away at it piece by piece and nobody holds our oversized, overzealous government accountable.

I saw a quote once, and it rings very true "our founding fathers would be shooting by now"

And if they were all here in modern day, they would all be wondering how P. Morgan slipped through the cracks.

We don't have a "gun violence" problem here in the U.S............we have a "violence" problem.

The "gun violence" phrase is just a substitute for "gun control", which has become well-worn, and they came up with something new that sounded more palatable. Same football play, just gave it a new name.
