While we still need to remain vigilant and be ready to contact our reps and senators when the next head of this putrid hydra appears, we can, for now, at take some comfort in the defeat of this legislation.

I am hopeful that this will be the beginning of the end of the panic. I expect inflated prices until supply is replenished, but hopefully the hoarders are now sated when considering that nothing will change in the foreseable future.

What are your thoughts? Do you expect this to die off soon, or do you expect the market to remain irrational for some time to come?

My concern is that before the hoarding stops and supplies are replenished, another mass event or big gun control push will start it all up again. I think things will ease, but it will take some time for several reasons.

First is supply. Regular shooters stocking up/hoarding and new shooters entering the market after Newtown basically whipped out 6-12 months of inventory, so as ammunition manufacturers produce it, it goes on the store shelves. It will take some time for new inventory to build.

Second, prices should start easing as only those truly desperate will pay the $0.70 - $1.00 per round for 9mm at places like cheaper than dirt. Most people are past that, but as stated in the point above, inventories need to build, it will not ease immediately.

Next, given the events in Boston, I see more people entering the shooting market for self defense as those events have caused some to over react.

Lastly, if you have seen the reaction to the gun control bills defeat in the Senate and how the debate played out from the gun control supporters side, you should realize that things are very different from the 90's or early 2000's. For all the fun at the expense of Biden looking like Walter to Obama's hissy fit, you can see that this is personal. For the gun control crowd, it is now beyond a policy or Constitutional debate. They are just starting with the demonization of all gun owners and our lobby groups like the NRA and GOA. It is going to be 24/7/365 in using language, emotions, and dead children to try to turn the non shooting public against firearms owners. Obama, Feinstein, Giffords, the Newtown parents, Bloomberg, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc have decided that if you do not agree sub their wishes on gun control, then you are acting in bad faith. They now want to convince as many as possible that this is the truth to marginalize us. They are in it for the long term and long game. The tactics have changed and we cannot go back to sleep until the next Newtown. We must be open about why we own firearms (in my case, I am my own bodyguard because I cannot afford to hire one) so those who do not have firearms, but are not hard core anti, will understand who we really are, and not believe the caricature the media and the gun control crowd has created and will be pushing.

I'm sorry to say that if/when supply gets better, I'm going to start hoarding (though not re-selling for inflated prices).

I'll figure out what I need for the next 5 years at the range (maybe 1000 rounds per person per year), and stock up to that level.

But I do not think prices are going to go down. Bear in mind that the gubmint pays farmers NOT to plant certain crops. I can see them doing that wrt ammo. "Sell to us and don't make more than a certain amount" It's the best way to reduce firearm use. Why they're doing it with .22lr and 9mm, I do not know.

One thing, though I don't know if lawmakers and politicians realize.

America is not just a nation of gun owners. The business of target practice, competitions, hunting is HUGE. There are many businesses who will start tanking because of the push to demonize guns and limit arms and ammo. Ranges will close down. Outfitters will run out of customers. Companies that make accessories will have to downsize. Imagine Cabelas and Gander without hunting and shooting and accessories. They'll have to start closing down brick and mortar stores (after a big ramp up on prices).

Oddly, my friend had a mailing from CTD telling them to HURRY out and buy an AR they were back in stock for $1700. Hmmm. I think (hope) the CTD ripoff artists will go out of business.

I agree that they are so heavily invested in this cause, it will not go away, and the flood of new owners will continue. Although at some point everyone who wants a gun will have one, except for people like me who wanted one and wound up with 5 so far.

Look how long it took to wake people up to the global warming scam. It remains as a shambling zombie that will not die because so many people have so much invested in it, or so much to gain from it.

There are already enough end-around bills such as a bullet tax to fund therapeutic kite flying, as backup plans in case the full frontal assault fails. And of course, the outright clearing out supply with our own tax money.

Like BadgerJ I will be stocking up to higher levels than I had been maintaining which if others are doing the same will keep the pressure on ammo supplies for some time to come even after this current panic.

The thing that sucks is I can't afford to buy all that I need at one time even if it was available. This means I have to slowly stock up. Buying when I have the money and restrict my shooting practice so that I am not using it as fast as I can buy it. The other thing that sucks is my wife has different priorities for where the money I earn needs to go.

But as for the panic aspect, it happened because people sensed what was coming, because they knew darned well how hateful of liberty their hired staff actually is, how ruthlessly anti-American they can be in their pursuit when they get bees in their bonnets. It'll continue to recur so long as the liberty-haters remain hired and anywhere within 1000yds of our Constitution, and until it's clear we've had a top-down cleansing of our court's waffling judges such that they actually respect, protect AND defend the Constitution and its prohibitions against government finagling. IMO, there's no real way around that.

Stuff . . . firearms, ammo, & their related accessorizes are all continuing to trickle into the market place.

From what I'm seeing lately is; prices are starting to return to their previous normalcy of just before the panic started.

I've seen over the past few months 5.56nato selling for an average of about $1.79 ah-round. Now it's about $1.00 ah-round. Though it could and still can be had for about $.41 to $.47 ah-round if you happen upon it at the likes of WW, Bass, Cabela's, & Gander Mnt.

So got ah be patient . . . . . .
