How far would a 5.56 round travel

You got a lot of variables that you'd have to take into account. What bullet weigh? Are you shooting horizontally or are you elevating it? If you're just shooting horizontally I would guess it's probably hit the dirt around 600 yards but if you elevate it then it's going to be able to travel much farther.

Gravity is a constant for practical purposes and the parallel fired bullet will hit the ground at the same time as one dropped from the same height. The variable is velocity which determines how far out it hits the ground. The bullet structure affects the change in velocity over time and the wind drift. We will ignore Coriolis effect and the direction of bullet spin for now.
Yeah, gravity is a constant but bullet weight plays a factor; mass equals energy or something like that. Einstein could probably puzzle it all out much better than some dolt like myself. Anyway, heavier bullets will, at some point, retain more velocity at a given distance than lighter bullets, thus enabling them to travel further in that specific period of time and the drop is measured in time, not distance.

At least that's how I understand it. If I'm wrong you're gonna have to use small words and lots of pictures :embarassed:

That is correct
I'm not really sure but I do know this; I hurt my head thinking about this and there's a reason I don't speak math. Let's dumb this down and talk about jumping over the campfire drunk and stripped to our skivvies and see who'd give 'em a singe first. That's something I can contribute to
