I live in Idaho and this is one of the best states IMO for gun owners. Saturday I was in the local Wally World and they actually had 9mm ammo in stock. I called hubby and told him I was going to pick up 9mm and 223. I asked him to check the safe and see how much we had but I still bought 500 rds of 9mm and 200 of 223 after I hung up. When I called him back he said "Well now we have 3000 rds of 9mm and you cannot buy any more ammo, ever."

He was kidding of course but to my question - How much is enough? What do you have? My co-workers asked me "What are you preparing for?" My smart-aleck response was "Zombies of course!"

We are buying a reloader or getting one for Xmas from my parents but we still need brass and I refuse to buy empty brass. What fun is that?

I forgot to add that we go to the range at least 4 times per month and shoot usually 200-250 rds of 9mm and 45 each time.

Ok so now - Input! Thanks!

I would say enough is determined by your capability to store it.

To paraphrase an old saying, "If you have any money left, you need more ammo."

In all seriousness, you can't have too much ammunition unless you no longer have room to store it.

Just look at the shortages of the last year. We're still seeing shortages of some calibers and types. And reloading components haven't been any better and primers may actually be worse.

With all of the "sky is falling" gobble-dee-goop about 2012, I expect that there could be a huge run on ammo and supplies in the last half of 2011.

And, at the very least, ammo probably won't get any cheaper so look at the money you save.:image035:

Exactly - That is the same as a woman going to the mall during a huge sale and saying "But look at how much we saved!"

Except I neeeeed the ammo!

If you are shooting 1000 rounds a month I would think you would want at least a six month supply. Once I accumulated 6000k rounds I replace them at rate of usage (1000 per month). I can't think of any reason not to have more. I have never heard anyone say I wish I didn't have all this ammo.

One can never have enough ammo...even ammo for guns they don't have. I've been buying 40S&W because I can never find 9 at WMart, and plan on buying a 40 next year.

6000k?
6 MILLION rounds? Jebus. I've heard of college kids making desks out of milk crates but you could make it out of ammo boxes.

On second thought, that sounds awesome.

PS, I know it was a typo but that would still be awesome.

Sorry, I guess 6 million might be excessive. Even for me. Yep typo.

You can never have enough.

It's like what pilots say about fuel: "You can never have enough fuel on board. Except when you're on fire".

Back in the day when I was younger, had more money, was married, had a place to shoot and ammo was cheaper (were talking 2001-2004) I would put about 1-2k in a weekend, once or twice a month, a combination of 9mm and 12gauge and maybe a .22 here and there. I would always have 2-3k sitting here at home waiting.

Stack it high, and keep it dry. You can never have too much.

Hah! "Enough" and "ammo" don't belong in the same sentence unless they are preceded by the adverbs "never" or "not."

HOW MUCH AMMO IS ENOUGH?

Answer - HOW MUCH CAN YOU AFFORD AND STORE?

There is no such thing as enough or too much. When I was working and HAD money before the economy and my "life problems" took hold, Id have on average 2-3k for the AKs and around 1.5K for the handguns and around 1K for the shotguns (between buckshot slugs and hunting loads)

You guys are too funny. I should have known better than to ask but no one owned up to how much they really have and shoot in a month now. Is it a secret? I promise I won't come to your house to borrow a cup of ammo if I need it.
