How to Insure I Will Never Purchase Your Products

Okay I gotta rant. Certain ads really p--- me off.

First and foremost I HATE this #### #### ad.

What in flying duckpoop makes you think I identify with three guys in balaclavas wearing fake uniforms carrying fake guns posing like they were members of some fake agency?

For the love of God if you're going to try to show your products in the hands of somebody whose opinion would persuade me to buy your product, get a real soldier or a real law enforcer and give me their name, rank, service agency or branch, etc.

If you want a badass in your ad get a real badass. Or at least get someone cool. Old Gunny as a spokesman for Glock - see that's cool. That's a good ad. Namless faceless fake "operators..." Bleh!

Oh and here is a thought... Maybe I'd like to see some Joe Blow civilian in the ad instead? You know someone I can empathize with perhaps? I don't throw on kevlar and go bust crackhouses on a daily basis. Of course not even a member of a SWAT team does that either but I digress.

I want a gun that'll never wear out, that'll be easy to own and operate, and that'll be there when a meth junkie tries to shove a sharpened piece of rebar into my throat so he can steal my wallet and buy another hit. I don't give a flying crap if it's in law enforcement or military use. Many of our favorite guns aren't!

For the love of Pete if this is your idea of modeling the product and you're just going to be tacky about it, at least get some girls. I'll at least look at the ad a little longer that way.

Now here's another ad that gets my goat. I forget who it was for but it was a major name brand... I've forgotten who but it was somebody who I really expected to know better! The ad was for some kind of 1911 IIRC and it said "You may not have been there but your gun has" and it showed a SWAT team in action.

Bull hockey and horse feathers! My gun ain't never been there and even if it had, that don't help me none! I wanna know what you're gonna do to make sure my particular individual gun is just as reliable as the ones you purpot to make for your model, who's of course once again wearing a balaclava and a fake uniform carrying a fake gun posing like he was a member of some fake agency... AAAARGH!!!

But the booby prize, I am glad to say, actually does not go to any firearm related product. It goes to this sorry outfit.

A full size fighting folder built to the durability requirements of full-on, Spec-Ops combat! If you need a utility folder, this is not the knife for you. The StratoFighters feature Dark Op's proprietary RaptorLok™, a self cleansing double talon locking system that uses the entire length of the knife to support the opened blade. Unlike modern unproven and complicated locking systems, this basic principles of this design have been tested for over fifty years. Dark Ops' secondary CrisisCross™ cross-bolt locking system serves the function of preventing the knife from being closed while open. The pommel end of the knife offers an integrated emergency window breaker and paracord safety tethering hole. The scales are made of T6160 aircraft grade hardened aluminum, not porous materials that cannot be decontaminated from bodily fluids or chemical munitions. Carved into the sides of the scales are lateral control grooves that provide indexing points in darkness as well as additional control without increasing the width of the handle. Deep finger grooves orient the knife in the hand and add a third more grip area. Quartz impregnated inserts provide extreme circumstances grip enhancement and are replaceable should decontamination be required. The Pocket clip is reversible for true ambidextrous tip up carry. The finish on the blade is Carbon Black Titanium CarboNitride (TiCN) vacuum deposited finish and is designed to shed the micro-fine airborne sand of Middle-eastern deserts. The Blade steel is made from Dark Ops proprietary CTV2 steel, an exotic and expensive Hybrid of Chromium, Cobalt, Tungsten, Vanadium, Molybdenum, in an alloy of surgical grade stainless steel. Thorough hardened to 58 HRC Rockwell with a secondary cryogenic cutting edge hardening, it is a steel that is basically indestructible! A full quarter inch thick, it is one of the heaviest production blades in existence today. Production versions feature the StratoFighter Laser Engraving and CTV2 Steel demarcation. 100% made in America! Spear point blade styles available with half serrated cutting edges.
Arrrrrgh... the level of stupidity and outright lies is just killing me...

GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS... 99% OF US ARE NOT DELTA COMMANDOS!

AND WE DON'T WANT TO BE EITHER!!!

Arrrrrrrrgh it makes my head hurt... I swear I will never buy crap from any company that insults me like this. Honestly who the heck do these people think the armed citizen is!?

Euc - these folks misguidedly seem to consider the armed citizen is an Urban Ninja macho wannabe Seal/SAS commando LOL!

They panda to the edge I reckon of the market - playing on all these aspects, so that prospective purchasors will feel ''super human'' by buying product.

Reminds me too of the catalog - ''Delta Force'' is it - where five rounds of about anything remotely ''tacticool'' merit a price tag of $10 or more

Sad to say - these ad's and promotions will continue - so long as dipsticks are influenced by them to buy - in the meantime you and me and most here will just puke quietly in the corner and carry on with out humdrum but sane and sensible lives!!

True tho - I would not and will not buy from them - on matter of principle. Same actually as with some TV ad's - I'd not buy on principle.

It looks like they are selling ammo, but I am not sure. I would rather see three fine ladies from The Blue Press in the ad, or perhaps some of those IDF girls that pop up occasionally.

It is amazing how many companies products are SEAL approved and made from Aircraft Aluminum for the Spec-ops  ..........

Just like the guy selling ninja crap and rubber band guns at the gun show there not going away. Just sit back and laugh.
The ad was for some kind of 1911 IIRC and it said "You may not have been there but your gun has" and it showed a SWAT team in action.
I think the ad is for Springfield and my first thought was:"Does that mean you are gonna sell me an used gun? and I will have to pay up the nose to boot?"

I wonder if the Ad departments for these companies ever bother to check boards like this to see who their customers are in real life.
It's Springfield Armory. They have it in the NRA mag.

The Ninja/SPECOPS ad thing works or they would not use it. It's like paying $100+ for a baseball game seat in left field. As long as some sucker is willing, they will keep charging for it.

OK, who owns a SA 1911? See my point?
Be back later guys, need to look into buying some ammo, a 1911 and a new knife. J/K. They do go over the top with some of this BS they like to sling. I can understand wanting a reliable , combat proven design, but I don't need the uber tactical stuff. Simple simply works.
Sooo.........There's No Way

That you can be swayed into buying the DarkOps Covert Folder?

then...I guess their DarkOps T~Shirt for a "Stocking Stuffer" is out of the question then.

DOn't forget that NASA approved foam bed that no one in NASA ever saw!
Marketing Company

These folks turn the job over to the ol' super-duper marketing company & they do tend to get a bit overzealous in their attempts to market products. It's a highly competitive world these days.
The fact that sort of marketing actually WORKS with the gun, ammo, and knife buying population is slightly sad.
It's been going on for a long time.
Sometimes the basic product is quite good but, the marketing is just way too excessive.

Some folks may find this hard to believe...but, the Navy SEALs are not issued watches that have "NAVY SEAL" printed on the watch face.
QK, I don't know how much that type of advertisement works nowadays. I am sure there is still a good segment of the population that fall for the "advanced SWAT-black-nylon-ninja-swing-from-the-ropes" ads but the Internet with discussion boards like this are making serious dents on that kind of crap.

Look at CombatCarry: at the moment of this posting, there were 7,443 posting (second place) regarding Concealed Carry Guns, 3,026 for Concealed Carry Holsters & Carry Options and 1,961 for Defensive Ammunition & Ballistics. That is a LOT of info being thrown back and forth by people that might not be "experts" but do take their stuff seriously and are not interested in selling but staying alive with dependable gear and people that do not have the knowledge but are smart enough to ask for it and get it.

I can almost bet you that some gun/holster/ammo/etc manufacturer somwhere is trying to come up with the campaign using a normal-looking lad or lass defending the family homestead in its ad. Hell, if they are really smart, they should be contacting Oleg for the pictures!

This kind of advertising really works. Blackhawk and a bunch of others use that same style. So, I guess there are a lot of people who want to be SEAL team ninjas.
I have a lot of black (Harley) t-shirts. Does that make me a part-ninja??
If I buy any of the SEAL team stuff, I will still be old and fat and tired.... guess my watch needs to have "Navy Seal" on it.

I agree that personally, I'd rather see great looking ladies in ads. Then, I can think "if I buy that 1911, I'll get a beautiful lady" ---- WOW! It worked. I have a 1911 and my wife is great looking.
I with you Euc....what a huge bunch of BS they're trying to place in our minds.........Personally, I'd LOVE to stare em down, eye to eye, to see who "blinks" first.....
Is this kind of advertising insulting? Yes.

I agree, they are targeting suburban wannabe-commandos, which are one of those kinds of gun-owners that give all of us a bad name.

On the bright side, ads like that perpetuate the idea (or rather, the simple truth) that civilians have, by nature and by the constitution, the right to buy state-of-the-art (i.e. "military") weapons and equipment.

If an ad reinforces the feeling that civilians have the right to buy a knife or flashlight or whatever used by "military" personnel in balaclavas and black uniforms, it should as a side-effect, it also reinforces the feeling that civilians have the right to buy the guns used by "military" personnel in balaclavas and black uniforms.

I would prefer more sensible advertising (and that's a very diplomatic version of what I really think), but lately I tend to see the bright side of things. I don't know what's wrong with me... maybe I should change my medication.

Its even better than I originally thought...look at the eyes of the 3 supposed operators...its all the SAME GUY! LOL!
Euc, you are just not in the target demographic for this type of advertising. I think a lot of us here are not in the target demographic. The target seems to be someone under 25 years old.

The marketing folks will go after their demographic whatever they have to do. Their research shows that this sort of ad will work on a majority of the target market. So there you go.

I am just best guessing that the Extreme Shock type advertising would not help a defensive shooter very much in the ol' court room.
Heck...that could possibly knock over a bucketload of wiggling worms.

I am under 25 years old though! And I hate this crap!
Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy when it comes to struggles against the anti-gun crowd.

Back when the FN 5.7 was new, Guns and Ammo featured it on the cover with large bold type about defeating body armor, IIRC. Of course, the AP ammo is restricted, but the cover made it look like this was just the thing for shooting those pesky SWAT guys.....

Advertisers and publishers just don't seem to think of how these ads and covers look to someone who is already trying to see the worst in them.

Matt
Perhaps their target demograpic is those people who not only have a CCW ticket but have the CCW badge also.

By the way, would you be giving a pass to the ad with "Old Gunny" in it if you hadn't seen R. Lee Ermy in Full Metal Jacket or watched him on Mail Call on The History Channel?
