My dad and I was fishing cedar creek and had to rescue a couple of guys because one had shot a hole thru the bottom of their boat trying to kill a 5 ft alligator gar one of them caught with a 12 gauge single shot.

I will stick with something more sensible such as a speargun or slurpgun. I have read lionfish are quite tasty but they have to be handled carefully.
