This has nothing to do with nothing, and almost more properly belongs in off topic, but it is about two CCW guns...
After doing adequate testing for both of them (which was most pleasant), I have settled into carrying around the XD45ACP and the Colt Detective Special. The lack of extra XD mags does bother me, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping.
Anyway since I've decided to switch from the .40 to the .45, and I believe I should practice with the BUG too, I took them to the old target range briefly today. I didn't shoot too many rounds, nothing special, just more target practice.
The only other two people there besides these three guys on the rifle range sighting in their hunting rifles were myself and a gentleman of a certain maturity. Interestingly I got there first and he set up right next to me.
I can't knock his tastes one bit. He had a Kimber, think it might have been an Eclipse, full government profile, blued finish, but I can't tell one Kimber from the other, and what I believe to be a Smith and Wesson model 28, early iteration.
Anyway the pistol range is one place you can't help but talk to people you don't know from Adam... it's necessary for safety after all, and everyone's always curious to see what you've got there. Heck that's half the fun of going.
And sure enough, after the black parts of the targets are mostly shot out in both lanes, we call a ceasefire.
And he says to me "I'm amazed that gun shoots that well. Those Glocks sure are ugly and most of them don't shoot worth a flip."
And to be fair, he did shoot a smaller group than I did.
"Well actually this is a Springfield..." I try to tell him. For some reason, despite the sheer number of XDs I see up for sale around here, a lot of people still haven't heard the good news. Anyway at this point I learn the the XD45 is on the cover of some gun rag right now and he starts making fun of me just a little bit.
"I bet you buy every new 9mm that comes out."
Actually, this is a .45. I think 9 is fine but .45 makes me feel better.
"Then why don't you get a 1911?"
I will, eventually. I don't really need one so it's a low priority item.
Then it's back to shooting, and one more target change, and I decide to put 4 cylinders' worth through the Colt just because.
I start packing up to go home and he asks me if that's a Colt, and I say sure and open the cylinder and hand it to him so he can have a looksie.
"How can you have such good and awful taste at the same time?" He asks me in all seriousness, and I do quote verbatim.
"I guess I just can."
