Steady Bob - subtle is good - ''less is more''. :wink:How bout breaking the edges a bit more
I had a Colt Defender with same problem. Friend of mine said I could get it "Dehorned" which I found out meant to smooth out the sharp edges like your gonna do. Good luck.Bruces45 said:I was thinking about getting a small file out and attempting to do some edge breaking on my XSE. The edges on that baby are sharp enough to shave with, that and its tearing the holster I got from Chris all to shreds. Here is what I am starting out with, hopefully I won't butcher it to bad.

Looks good Bruce
Another nice thing about STS is you can preform your own bevel job without having to refinish.

Sorry for the confusion Bruce, I was referring to posting to you about doing a de-horn job, shortly before you started your thread. :redface:You lost me somewhere OD.
Not really sir, I just prefer the "melted" style instead of the beveled style. I don't really do mine for holstering as such, but for manipulation (clearance drills etc.), the new CNC'ed Colt's can really slice your hand practicing a stove-pipe clearance drill. :aargh4:Is there any rerason that you didn't do as much rounding on the one you did as I did on mine?
I understand you completly Bruce and Chris...........I just meant a little lore...........like anout a .020-.030 radius on the edges.........that's really not very much..........justt enuf to smooth and round the edges on the side etc...:smile:Bruces45 said:I don't wanna get too crazy with it Bob, Like Chris said earlier, metal gone is metal gone for good. I am happy with the way it turned out, all the sharp edges are gone and I don't get chunks of leather when I unholster and re holster it anymore.
Make sure you take some pics so we can all see how good it turns out. :yup:duckhunter said:OK Bruce, you've inspired me. If you have the beans to do your whole 1911, I'm going to go hit the slide release on my K9. Everything else is fairly smooth, but I could use that sucker to slice tomatoes (and my thumb). Nice job on the Commander.
