Going to the Marine Corps ball tonight, and realized, it's going to be the first time in a while I won't be able to carry (besides at work because it's a military base, and to and from work because I can't even have it in my truck). IWB and shoulder carry are NOT an option in uniform. I do think I'd probably be able to get away with a J frame in an ankle holster though. I used to keep my wallet and cell phone in my socks when I was wearing charlies so my pockets wouldn't have bulges...if that worked, so could a snubbie. Too late to get one right now, but I just might for the future. I hate being unarmed!

Good luck tonight and have a good time.

I know what cah mean about being unarmed and out and about. I use a ankle rig sometime for deep concealment, but really like my LCP in a bellyband. It's not gonna be a fast draw but hey it's on me.... Again, have a great time. :bier:

For some of us a snubby and ankle holster are a must-have for this type of circumstances. I carry my BUG (snubby) in an ankle holster daily. It is second nature to me and I like having the option. I do prefer OC or IWB carry, of course.

Have fun tonight!

How about a J, or compact semi in a pocket holster?

Sounds like a god excuse for buying a snubbie...if you really need a reason...

Sounds like a great excuse. In fact, that's the first time I've heard the Marine Corps Ball excuse.

Have a good time tonight.

Pockets on uniforms are just for decoration :p
Yup, can't have no mickey mouse ears.

Enjoy your ball, I actually haven't made it to one yet, and just has my 3rd Marine Corps Birthday (one because it was during SOI, and two because of deployments), so have fun.

Everyone should have a j-frame in their gun safe, you don't need an excuse beyond that, I have concealed my 1911 in my blues before, it actually worked out ok with my rig.

Please set me straight on this? Are you thinking of carrying on base?

I personally cannot believe the thought process on breaking a Federal regulation by carrying a concealed weapon on a prohibited site. WE who have our CCL's are held to a higher standard and have gone through thorough (NC especially) background investigations in order to be given permission to carry. To break said laws lowers our standards and can end up with very severe actions against us if caught breaking the law. This puts us into the same catagory as any other criminal who knowingly is going to be committing a criminal act.

IMO if you are going onto a military installation or any other area/building that prohibits CC or weapons obey the law. For your ball plan on no stops to and fro the event. Your chances are much greater being involved in a auto accident than being in a true SD situation.

I'm a 24 year retired military member who now works as a civilian on the same base I retired out of. I check my weapon in every morning at the front gate and pick it up when leaving. Takes a few extra minutes but is worth it IMO.

Have fun and be safe.

You can easily put a snubbie in one of these...
Pocket Holster
Not in a Marine Corps Uniform.

An ankle holster works just fine, but gets uncomfortable if you do any dancing. It is tough to get to when in Blues, better when in Alphas. Besure you strap it on tight.

Before everyone panics, most Marine Corps balls are off base. Reread his post....he says he doesn't carry on base.

Happy Birthday Marines.

Get a J frame and Smart Carry. As long as your pants aren't too tight, you can pack that little snubby and a speed strip and keep your shirt tucked in, to boot.

I was pushin' it with the pants...apparently they shrunk a bit at the dry cleaner

Ball was off base. Had a good time. Ross Perot was our guest speaker. Buckeye, you need to get your ass to the ball next year! Definitely something you gotta do at least once in your enlistment.
