I'm getting a FREE gun safe!

Sounds like one heck of a deal! Considering the price, I don't think there is much else to consider about the brand.

As far as moving it, you have the advantage of knowing that it was brought into the house, right? (rather than installed before the house was built) So, it should go back out the way it came in. Ask the owner if it was originally delivered by 2 or 3 people and an appliance dolly. If so, get a good buddy and rent a dolly. Might plan on at least a dinner and a few refreshments after the moving, your buddy will need it, and you can celebrate your deal!

My guess is this safe could be 500-700 pounds!

I've used an appliance dolly to move a washing machine recently, and that was not walk in the park.

I've heard of what's called a "stair climber". How does it work and where do you think I could rent one, provided it will make this easier than a dolly?

Moving them around is not that tough. 3-4 guys and the right equipment---AND--- lots of premovement planning will make it a piece of cake. Measure the outside dimensions (then add an inch) and walk the route very slowly with tape measure in hand. While empty,if you can tip the front edge off the ground,it isn't that heavy. About 500-600 lbs.~.Remember the 7 P's. Good luck. ------

That's what my safe is - American Securities. It's a big safe and when "they" delivered it, "they" was one man. He brought it up steps with a battery powered hand truck with a stair climber thing on it. Moved it, set it up, everything by himself. I couldn't help; I was recovering from "minor" back surgery at the time.

well this is involved but it will work. I had to move a 1200lb computer up a flight of steps. The company I hired acutally build a ramp on the steps of 3/4 plywood, used a block-and-tackle and just winched it up the ramp. Took a single person 2 hours to do it.

I'll vote for RSSZ's approach in essence.

Three to four guys with some muscle - and a PLAN. It makes all the difference to have a sequence and method mapped out before any attempt made. I also strongly suggest at least two guys use large and strong webbing straps - which will go under of course, and greatly aid lifts.

Co-ordination and team work make this very possible - power-lifting synchronized stage lifts work well. At least one person is positioned as the ''stability guy'' - such that as the main team does a stage lift - he ensures no topple risk.

So - get the beer and crackers ready - go find your team and plan it out!! Great deal BTW - feel sorry for the guy's direction of move tho!!!

Stock up on lots of Beer and Pizza!! That's how I move everything. You'll be amazed how much four guys can lift when they know pizza is on the way.

Actually I would recommend doing this! I know a guy who does it in my area (Missouri) for either $125.00 or $150.00 but I bet you could get a deal being that close to each other from a guy in your area.

They use like $3,000.00 special dollys that are either electric/hydralic both ?, I can't remember, but they are sweet for moving a safe and are designed to do just that. Up stairs is no problem for them either.

I would call a local business that sells safes in your area and get a number or two of someone who does this for a living or on the side. It's money well spent and takes all the pressure off of you.

I agree, I think you should pay someone to move it. You got the safe for free. My wife had back surgery after we moved ourselves from TX, it would have actually just been cheaper to pay someone to move all the stuff. Just a thought.

My first post here but I can tell you what I would do. Pay someone to do it. Cost me $200, the three guys who moved it into my house just used about 4-5 pieces of 2 inch steel pipe and rolled the sucker in.
