Not holding my breath, they probably have a better chance at banning spitting, a flat tax, and term limits put together than getting those mass murdering weapons of war back.

I sure hope they succeed. A nation is in a precarious position where if the government goes corrupt, or is toppled, the citizens have no means of defending themselves. As much respect that I have for the citizens of the UK, an unarmed ally is of little use.

Given that the disarmament of the people seems to be a global initiative, is there a global version of the NRA that can assist the citizens of the UK here?

A sad, but salient point. Once they take it, you never get it back.

...I still remember in WWII when the Germans were sure to invade GB...they BEGGED us for arms, since they had so few they couldn't hope to defend their homeland...Americans gathered every gun they could spare up, from collections and gun cabinets and garages all across America, and shipped them over to "our British brothers"...

...immediately after the war, the Brits gathered them up, sailed them out to sea, and dumped them in the ocean...

...no sympathy...

IMO, The majority of the British population has the same gun mentality as Piers Morgan. What I think is a joke is their unarmed police officers who depend on specially trained armed police officers who they must call for assistance and in this case were only minutes away, twenty (20) minutes.

Morgan fails to mention that gun crime is down but crimes committed with bladed instruments has increased, and many are committed against British police office who have been stabbed to death in the line of duty.

Interesting quote from the article, I'm looking for the actual study referenced:

A recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally, that is, “where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are highest."
I think this may be the one referred to: (I already had it, was hoping it was new)

But statistics from the United States show that guns are used by citizens to defend themselves around eighty times more often than they are used to take a life.

They finally get it........ Too late.
I doubt if they get it. Americans have a frontier history and our frontier traditions leave us with a different view of guns and personal defense. We can argue crime statistics with the British but frankly, I don't care what the statistics show I want and demand the right to own, carry, and protect me and mine without depending on the Government to do it for me.
British versus American statistics perhaps displays nothing more than one country investing more in the government response to criminality, while the other maintains a citizen-based response.

Yeah, good luck with that England. Maybe we could do a three for one trade. Every upstanding resident of the UK who wants their ability to own firearms restored can come over here and we'll ship out three anti-gun libs who can take their place on the island and soak up all that good, old fashioned socialism.

"You don't know what you've lost 'til it's gone."

Tough row to hoe, there, taking back their liberties from the entrenched tyrants.

We (in the USA) learned that lesson in the 1770's. Kicked out the tyrants, back then. Have got a similar problem now, rolling down the same path (though still in somewhat early stages). But, many of us, thankfully, know darned well what it is the tyrants are seeking to take from us, 'cause we've seen it all before, 'cause we appreciate those around the world who are at the mercy of such people when they're fully disarmed and incapable of withstanding predations.

Maybe we can talk the Scandinavians into pillaging them again. That ought to wake them up.

Though, sadly, we're getting content and lazy, as a people, from the standpoint of defending liberty, making many of the mistakes feared by the Founders, putting into place many of the same infringing anti-liberty acts that caused an entire people to eject from Europe back then. Amongst far too many of us, here in the USA, such traditions are things of a bygone era that hold no real meaning anymore, in people's hearts.

We need to get off our fat surpluses, and get back to basics. History, reeducating the insanities out of people's heads, instilling a strong moral compass, focus on the meaning of liberty and mutual governance of a free people, our core founding principles and traditions (along with why those were put in place), etc.

In the meantime: take a kid to the range, and teach him/her well.

How about a straight across trade; Diane Feinstein for Pippa Middleton?
