Did you hear that story from a German intelligence officer?
Nope. That is documented history. Look it up. According to the Armed Forces Museum site, that "...is the only known WWII aircraft to be taken down using only pistols." "Only known" meaning the only incident confirmed.

Look, I get that everyone wants the parachute story to be true. And who knows, maybe it is. But it is 1) Unlikely, and 2) Unconfirmed. You and everyone else are completely free to believe it anyway if you like.

Not denying the story, but the image is not accurate. The Japanese plane, the parachutist, and the parachute are the wrong sizes, in relation to each other.

As for the cartridge, well, the Japanese zero was lightly-built, and I have seen what .45 ACP FMJ can do, when shot into motor vehicles, as large as a Ford Econoline van.
That image is no doubt photoshopped, but the story is true.

Here's the thing about 45acp that hits home for me. I don't stock thousands of rounds of fancy carry ammo. I can't afford 3K rounds of HST so when things get sketchy I am, in pretty short order, going to be carrying ball ammo.
I would rather have 45 ball than 9mm.
