i was driving into a shopping center (outside lane of 2 lane) and it has a curve in it and the car in the inside lane about takes out the side of my car. So i steped on it to get ahead of him, so not take another chance of this guy hitting me... i sped up, then he sped up wouldnt let me over so i slowed down real quick to get behind him, he slowed down, so i stepped on it and i was able to get over (the outside lane was about to end) dropped my speed down around 15-20 and went down the lane to go park my car, i noticed in the mirror this guy went down another lane, so i didnt think anymore about it.... then it happened i noticed when getting out my car waiting on my wife to get out, this guy came running at me. i could tell it was the guy driving that other car that almost hit me.. i am 6'2" about 270... he was about 6"3" and maybe 250 and maybe a few years older.... yelling and screaming at me. why did i cut him off, and why did i sped up......i say "What is your problem"? (i immediatly put my hand in my pocket where i was carrying my lcp) first of all i didnt want you to hit me, so i tried to get around you, then you sped up and wouldnt let me so thats when i slowed down then you slowed down. then he says why did you have to go so slow in front of me i said the speed limit sign says 15 mph..... i said geez dude get over it, why dont you just go on your way before i have my wife call the police. so he walks away (after calling me a bunch of names). then we get into sam's he starts it all over again..... i said i suggest you just go on your merry way.... you dont know what your getting yourself into......
the greeter said what in the world was his problem... I said its that time of the year again the weirdos come out.
this comes 1 week after a shooting in this same area...
i must say i was ready and if he had pulled a gun..... welp lets leave it as i was ready to do what i had to do.

Glad you were armed, just say sorry, and move away. Be polite to everyone, but have a plan to kill them.

It is true around this part of Missouri also. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas there have been years when burglary and domestic problems jump. People get teh crazies this time of year.

I've only been here a few weeks, but it seems like a great majority of these real life situations start "behind the wheel".

I'm going to make a concerted effort to drive more politely, and try harder not take it personally when encountering less-than-courteous drivers.

p.s. I LOVE sigmanluke's last sentennce:
"Be polite to everyone, but have a plan to kill them."

I gotta say since I got my CCW permit a while back, I actually feel like I'm a better person! I'm much more forgiving when other drivers make a mistake. I try to be more polite than I've ever been. I drive at the speed limit...maybe 'cuz I don't want the hassle of getting stopped with a loaded firearm, permit or not!

All in all, getting the permit seems to have helped me a lot!

I have heard so many people say the same thing on here and other forums. Taking the responibilty of carrying a gun really makes one step back and look at the big picture. Gun or no gun,is it really worth it to get into it with an idiot over a parking spot,or someone tailgating you? Stand up for yourself by all means, but carrying a gun really makes you put things in perspective.

I really hope you didn't actually say that to the guy because it's just about begging for an escalation.

I have found that you can de-escalate most road rage situations simply by saying "I'm sorry" whether you're in the right or not.

I gotta agree with Treo. It seems we all like to talk about the idiots out there but none of us ever wants to admit that sometimes WE'RE the idiots!

I've made a couple of bonehead moves in my time and I've found that, most of the time, a simple "I'm sorry" works well.

Does any one of us really want to pull out that gun we're carrying and kill someone over a stupid move someone makes in traffic? I hardly think so.

First, glad that you could diffuse things and make a non-event out of it.

Second, I noticed in the description of the "weirdo" that he was about 6'3" / 250 lbs. And you have a Ruger LCP. That's a .380 auto. Since this is December and you're in Missouri, I'm guessing it's rather cold there, cold enough to not be considered t-shirt weather. Maybe a couple layers of clothing plus a jacket or coat. While one never gets to pick the ideal caliber for an unknown opponent, I hope you're feeling really confident about your shot placement skills. I know I'd be rethinking the wisdom of trusting my life to a .380, especially during the winter and having layers of clothing to penetrate before getting to a large aggressor.

This weirdo was out to play road games. You try to avoid them but some times it doesn't work out. This person can't let things go and due to this he's probably miserable most of the time.

To be honest I'd call it 50-50, the OP didn't have to speed up to start. This isn't highschool. If you're carrying a gun it is incumbent upon you to everything in your power not to escalate a situation.

There's no 'season' for weirdos/wackos...they are everywhere, all the time.
Road incidents are probably the worst way to meet one...:yup:
Stay armed...stay alert...stay safe!
