Jersey City man shot in face by cop was trying to rob him, source says
By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
January 11, 2010, 1:27PM

Kwadir Felton, 18, was shot in the face by a Jersey City police officer last night. He remains at the Jersey City Medical Center under arrest. The man shot in the face by a Jersey City cop last night was trying to rob the cop at gunpoint, a source told The Jersey Journal this morning.

The source, who was not authorized to speak on the record, said that at least two undercover officers were involved in an operation near the corner of Dwight Street and Bergen Avenue last night at about 8:30 when Kwadir Felton, 18, approached one of the officers, who was not in uniform.

Felton, the source said, pulled a gun on the cop and attempted to rob him before he was shot in the face.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio did not release any information on the shooting and said that the state Attorney General's Office is handling the investigation. A spokesman for the Attorney General's Office said a statement would be issued today.

Felton is being treated at the Jersey City Medical Center.

NY Times:

At the hospital, a woman who said she was the victim’s sister identified him as Kwadir Felton, 18, from Jersey City, and said he had been shot in the face. A senior at a vocational school, he was scheduled to graduate in June, she said. She said doctors told her that he was blinded but was likely to survive. She said it was a case of mistaken identity.

Groups of officers huddled outside the hospital as friends of the victim tried to visit. A security guard, who appeared to be familiar with the young men who came by, could be heard warning them that they could not bring their guns inside — prompting some to turn away.

“He’s a joker,” the friend said. A fan of rap and all things basketball — playing at a nearby park, watching the Cleveland Cavalier’s LeBron James or working the simulated court in a video game — Mr. Felton did not seem like the type to carry a gun...

A case of mistaken identity? What he confused the UC to be a real person? He should have emptied the clip in his face, nothing good ever came or comes out of Jersey anyway...just one less basketball playing model citizen to worry about.

This is one example of how this is being viewed by New Jersey Residents in Jersey City..........4 pages of this Crap already on the web. Just had to post to show the negativity against LEO..........

"Yeah good job...shoot the suspect in the HEAD! Guess the 18 yr old's body wasn't a big enough target! If shooting the suspect was absolutely necessary...why not shoot him in the leg so he can't run? Now this person is BLIND. Mission Accomplished!"

Now you know why you can't get a CCL here in NJ.........
