Cleaned the CW9 after shooting it today. After lubing the slide rails, I put the slide back on the gun, without installing the barrel and spring, to run the slide back and forth and distribute the lube.

Well, after I ran the slide all the way back, as if to charge the gun, the slide is not coming off! Depressing the trigger makes no difference. The slide will travel just a tick forward of its in-battery position, and then it's all stop. I don't want to force it.

Am I missing any secret handshakes to get the slide back off?

I did the same thing once... I don't remember exactly why.... but the slide got stuck as you described... I finally got it loose, by tapping it with a nylon/rubber headed mallet... It took a few taps/whacks, while pulling the trigger... but it finally came back off... I put it back together, took it to the range the next day to make sure I didn't screw anything up and it was fine...

If there is a plunger that the trigger linkage depresses to release the firing pin as in a Glock Try depressing it manually while you move the slide forward. You may also need to hold the trigger down and/or pull and release it. Hope it helps.

FYI - I use an old toothbrush or a bent pipe cleaner to distribute the lube in the rails of my Glock's slide. You may want to try that instead in the future!:gah:

That was the first thing I did. Being impatient, the next step was to see if anyone here had been as crafty as I was...

I'm ashamed to admit that I did this a few years back too. I installed the slide back without the spring on my MK9 for who knows what reason. I can't remember the exact way that I was able to fix it, but I remember racking the slide back and forth with the guide marks aligned and eventually getting the trigger to release the slide.

I did this a couple of times when my CW9 was new. Eventually got it loose with a combination of repeatedly moving the slide back and forth while randomly pulling the trigger, or while keeping the trigger pulled. Have no idea what caused this, or what fixed it, and haven't had this problem for quite awhile -- though I think that's because I pull the trigger to make sure it's uncocked before trying to disassemble it. The Kahr does have a firing pin safety similar to the series 80 Colt. There is a double ended lever inside the frame that teeter totters when the trigger is pulled. One end goes down releasing the firing pin and the other up pushing the safety plunger. You may need to have the slide exactly in battery position when you pull the trigger. I have a Mk.9 but am hesitant to try it as I may end up in your predicament.

Update - fixed it

I re-set the firing pin lock (plunger next to the striker 'lug'), then eased the slide forward into battery. Pulled the trigger and got a satisfying 'click', then the slide pushed off with modest pressure.

I had a Millenium in titanium that i HATED on reassembly.....locked that thin up multiple times....shouldnt be that hard!!!!

This isn't a reassembly issue as much as it was an incorrect assembly. The gun does need a recoil spring in it to function correctly.
