I EDC a PPS .40 and love it. It's been flawless and more accurate than I expected the first time I shot it. The width, at .91", is great. My only gripe is the cost of magazines but shopping around online can help. No one in my area stocks the mags but you may have more luck with that.
I haven't owned or shot a Kahr but I hear good things about them. The only drawback there might be price, though I don't know what your limit is.
Between your two stated options, it's a push. But I must ask, have you SHOT a small, poly-framed .40 S&W with "warm" SD loads? I have a K40 (steel-framed Kahr) and even it gets pushed around some when running stout 180 gr. SD ammo.
Both are fine firearms and either should serve you well. I've shot the CW40 and own a PPS 40. They are very close in size but the PPS is about 4 oz. heavier which does help a bit with the recoil. The biggest difference is in the price. The PPS will run close to $200.00 more than the CW.
