Carrying under the kilt would not be a good idea. Too many ladies want to check to find out if it's true what we don't wear beneath our kilts!
:ahhhhh::ahhhhh::ahhhhh:

Thank you for the disturbing mental images.

I will now go poke my eyes out with a fork.

On a side note the good thing about wearing a smart carry is The Question: "What do you wear under your kilt?"

Maybe check to see if the cornered cat has anything for skirt carry?
While that's a good suggestion, cornered cat is pretty adamant about waist or shoulder carry only.

For skirt carry (which is surely close enough in this instance), I've been working on a thigh holster. It makes sense to me.. have it readily available and not attached to the clothing. Reaching there wouldn't be that much different from the waist. I'd think with a kilt - and it's pleating - you'd be able to get away with it being more outside than inside, too.

How about wearing a belly band holster, but instead of putting it under the waistband of your kilt, put it as low over the waist of the kilt as you need and cover it with your shirt? I'm not too familiar with what you would wear as a shirt with a kilt, but this was just a thought that it might work for you. Good luck and always stay safe.

I haven't carried while kilting yet, but just had a thought about sporran carry. Depending on your gait, activity, and gun weight, you might want to be aware of 'sporran bounce'. Dunno if it's a real world concern or not, but just something I thought of.

Freaky coincidence....I'm drinking Kiltlifter at the moment...

Well today was the first real day of all day kilt wear, and I was fairly active as I was helping a friend move. Was my first full day kilted mostly cause my day wear sporran finally got here. Sporran bounce I can see as being an issue if I don't have it adjusted correctly. Though that could be exacerbated with a heavy gun added to the sporran.

One things for sure shoulder carry is out of the question as the jackets made to be worn with a kilt are far to form fitting to conceal with. I have several yards of heavy vinyl kicking around I may try my hand at making a cheap mock up of a holster sporran. If that turns out ok I will order some leather and see where that takes me.

I'll be sure and post some pictures here if things work out if anyone is interested.

Me thinks I'm going to buy a Mossy Oak Utilikilt.

I be of the ******* Clan mate. My FIL plays the pipes in the Caldonian Society to do's. If I showed up in a Mossy Oak Kilt he'd have a coronary.

That's one way to get the farm he has, and it's cheaper than buying it. :hand10:

I thought people usually only wore kilts for formal occasions, like weddings and stuff. I didn't know people wore them just going about their day or doing stuff like moving.
This might be a good option
Handgun holsters designed to conceal your handgun in a concealed carry holster system
A kilt is like the best pair of pants you could ever own. Aside from the comfort level they can be as casual as your favorite pair of jeans to as formal as a custom tailored tux. It really comes down to what you wear with the kilt that identifies the formality.

That rig does look interesting. Probly work better for kilt carry then the cargo pants option they had in the video. Also being able to carry backup mags is great.

Guns look good with kilts. I know of 3 people that carry openly while kilted.

In my opinion, if your man enough to wear a kilt, you should be man enough to expose your firearm. ;)

Careful telling a man in a kilt to expose his gun. somethings you just don't want.

Don't be mistaken I do indeed OC from time to time. For the most part though I do prefer CC

I wear a kilt almost daily. ( traditional style.) This includes from going to the store to Business meetings. I carry concealed most of the time.
My "rig" depends on the gun.
1. S&W ( 4".357 mag. rev.) either in a "safe packer" or in a custom IWB
2. 1911 ( custom Springfield ) same as above
3. SP101 ( .357 mag. rev.) Either in the above, or in a "jackass" or a sporran.

I would also suggest this forum - http://www.kiltsrock.com/forum/

There are a LOT of discussions on this ( including from some kilt makers ) This forum has a large number of men & women who carry. ( they range from civilians to FED & local LEOs )

Plus feel free to PM me.

How about a kilt with a slit down the leg to hide a secret pocket that was held closed with velco and include a pull tab to split the velco for quick deployment?

kilts

1965, in London, I was with a bunch of Black Watch troops, got into town too late to see the Rolling Stones at the Royal Albert Hall so we went to a wrestling match. They made me wear a kilt with the knee socks (with my black combat boots) and the little bag in front. No firearms, just the traditional knife in the sock. It was December, icy cold but a great time! The guys I know who wear kilts & carry firearms* all seem to wear Utilikilts and just carry whatever regular IWB or OWB holster that other guys do.

pax

* Yes, more than one or two. Less than a dozen.
Yes "Utilikilts" are quite popular ( esp. here in the PNW ) but the world of "modern kilts" has greatly expanded & a number of makers of this genre of kilt are making kilts that are designed for concealed carry.:comeandgetsome:
Also ther are a couple makers of "traditional style" that are doing it.

I had some extra belt loops made for my IWB holster that fit my 2.5" kilt belt... any more I wear a rugby type shirt with my kilts, untucked unless I'm dressing up, but then I usually wear a suit/tux jacket, so I can tuck my shirt in. I carry a full size 1911 in mine...
