Kimber Ultra Carry or Sig Two Tone? (bought the kimber, pics inside)

So I am about to buy myself a treat. I closed a giant deal at work and I deserve it!

I want a compact 1911. I have a Kimber Pro Carry 2 and love it, so the Kimber Ultra Carry is a natural choice and what I am leaning towards. But then today I see the Sig Sauer Ultra Two Tone which is lighter and awfully sexy.

So, if it was you, which of the two would you get? Since I want the Kimber in Stainless Steel the price is the same on both, roughly $950.

To me, the Kimber accuracy is just ridiculous. But having never shot the Sig I don't know. One thing I never liked was an external extractor on a 1911, but both S&W and Sig use them, so they can't be all bad right?

Thoughts? Ideas? Other suggestions(1911 compacts only)?

Sig is interesting

I own a Colt Defender and have handled the Kimber Ultra and the Sig Ultra two tone. I like my Defender, but the Sig is a very nice gun and I was tempted by it recently when I handled it in a gun store. It is attractive, and I trust Sigs to work. If I were starting from scratch with a 3 inch 1911, I'd probably give the Sig a try.

Thats a fine looking Colt. Unfortunately it isnt an option. I want something in the 25oz range
Smolck,
Just my opinion but of the 2 guns you are considering I'd go with the Sig. You also mentioned that you want something in the 25oz range, Colts website lists the Defender at 24oz, pretty close to what you are looking for. Tough choices, good luck.
So here it is. Yes, it cost me more than I wanted to pay ($839 before taxes) and it isn't a NEED right now. But dang, I just got the bug for a small 1911 and I wanted one in stainless steel. Can't wait to go to the range! I look for this to serve me as flawlessly and accurately as my Pro Carry 2 does.

Excellent choice! That was my choice for a 3" 1911 as well, shown below with some of Sarge's cobra skin grips. I carry it pretty much 3 seasons out of the year.. Scary accurate, but with a little more recoil than the pro carry.

I have the SIG RCS Nitron. I love it. It's far more accurate than I am. From the reviews I've read it's more accurate than a lot of other 1911s as well.

I see you went with the Kimber, what was the decision making process? Seeing as I just traveled that road and took the opposite course I'm just wondering why you chose Kimber.
Congrats.

Isn't there some saying like "Every time someone buys a 1911, an angel gets its wings"?

Nice Smolck! Congrats on a killer deal too. I am sure there is some change left over so enjoy that too!

Great looking gun. Let us know how she shoots!

I went Kimber for two reasons. 1. I have a Pro Carry 2 and that thing has been flawless and is SCARY accurate. 2. The Sig was just a hair more expensive at $940 and I that would put me over $1000 out the door, my wife is already pissed, she'd have locked me out of the house if I had spent that much.

What loads do you shoot for defense? I like those grips. What seasons do you carry it?

My local range is closed for renovations till April 17th! I bought 50 rounds of 230gr ball ammo for it, might have to go to the other range in town that I hate, but at least they are open. REALLY anxious to see if this little bugger is as accurate as my Pro Carry. I've posted this many times, but this is the accuracy it has to live up to....below is the pic of 35 rounds at 7 yards off hand with the Pro Carry 2

I use the 230grain federal HST when I could get them off the web in boxes of 50, and I am just about out of those and have a box or 2 of Speer gold dots. But based on the independent tests I have seen of those HST and my own caveman tests in my yard, I plan on ordering a bunch of those when this current ammo craziness ends. As for when I carry it, spring and fall I carry it anytime possible, and in winter it rotates with my pro carry. This summer I will probably carry it when I go to larger cities, I just haven't figured out a solid concealment shirt for summer yet. In the meantime I am getting a snub revolver for deeper concealment in just a T shirt.
