Well people traveling this weekend to New Orlean.
I will be carrying and going to the French Quarter.
A friends band is playing there and Im going to help out and be with a friend of mine going to see them play.
They are playing in the French Quarter, and a place that doesnt allow CC. I will be CC everywhere else where legal though.
Any advice for someone that CC there?

'Just a hypothetical response here...

NOLA is dangerous. Period.

I decided long ago, that if I were to go into dangerous situation that didn't allow CC, and if I CC'ed anyway and didn't need it, then nobody is the wiser. If I DID need it, well then I'd rather be alive and prosecuted than dead.

Not that I would ever break the law, nor recommend that anybody do so. Again, just a hypothetical thought...

Just stay alert. As the posts from above I have been there twice and both times I felt uncomfortable...from all of the dark under lit areas to drunk/crazy people at the french quarter. Stay alert and stay safe.

I remember there has been some previous threads about visiting NO. Try searching "new orleans" in "thread titles" only, I'm sure several will pop up.

My wife and I go to NO quite a bit and always stay at Royal Sonesta in the Quarter. We've never really had any problems by staying in the lighted areas at night, staying among the crowds, never going down dark streets alone, and not staying out too late.

According to the State Police website, here are some prohibited locations:

LSP - Sections - Concealed Handgun Permit Unit

When in the Quarter remember a few things. NOPD are probably not going to be a gun-friendly bunch. I think there are a couple of private schools in that area, you could be in a part of a school zone while in the Quarter and not really know it. Can't cc in bars.

The French Quarter can be a rough place

If you choose to carry in the Quarter, choose your carry method carefully. Deeply concealed is a good thing. Solid weapon retention a must.

The most common crime down there is pick pockets! As the evening crowd grows, you will find yourself constantly being bumped with plenty of other distractions to watch.

Plenty to see and experience, but heed the advise of the other posters! Avoid trouble at all cost. NOPD is everywhere, and they are not CCW friendly.

Prayers sent here are well, be safe.
NOLA has the same appeal to me as Hollywierd, I haven't been to either place and don't plan to go.

I never liked New Oreleans either but now that we don't live in La. anymore, my wife likes to go to the French Quarter when we visit the family. I carried in July when we went. I felt a lot better carrying but I still don't feel comfortable there.

I've been told that if you are involved in ANY type of shooting you are automatically charged and a grand jury decides if it will go any further. Anyone know more about that?

NOPD. The police down there are not only real hip on CCW, they not real hip on a lot of stuff, like out-of-towners. After dark don't go wandering off to Basin street or anywhere too far from Bourbon or Royal if you can help it. Be very aware, its a dangerous place.

Alex!

The first time I was in NO, it was in the late 60s.

The last time I was in NO, it was just after Katrina, as part of a disaster recovery team.

The next time I will be in NO, will be at the Devil's funeral for terminal frost bite.

I've made about 30 trips to New Orleans and I always stay at the Royal Sonesta. Beautiful hotel.

Just around the corner is one of my favorite places in the world: The Acme Oyster Bar.:image035:

I've always felt safe.

But you know what they say: If you act stupid, you get treated stupid.

If you feel thoroughly uncomfortable, drop by a hardware store and pick up a maglight and belt carrier. It is no CC but it is better than nothing.

I searched and found this thread...I'll be in N.O. Wed. thru Sat. I grew up an hour away in Gulfport, MS. and would go to NOLA twice a month in high school and right after. Older-yes, wiser-questionable, more self aware-YES.

Patti, Acme Oyster House is on my must see (and eat there) list.
