Interstate Arms is selling P226's 9mm's with 2 mags to LEO's for 299.95.

That comes with 2 mags and nightsights. These guns are from the Toledo Ohio PD and are 10 years old but rated to be in good condition with only holster wear, although the nightsights may be dim or out.

You can do a letterhead for on duty use of download an application for offduty use. Extra 15 round mags are 10$.

Thats a good price that'll be hard to beat. At that price, one could pay to have it refinished and it'd still be a heck of a deal.

Yes, at 10 years old the night sights would be nearly kaputt...at half brightness at best but, at 299.95 for a SIG...who cares about the night sights.

True, though there are probably enough LEO's out there to sell these to they would probably sell them a bit faster if the sale was open to the public.

The motives behind a thing like this always intrigue me.

See, if you're cutting LE professionals a deal on a quality tool they need to do their job, big props to ya because you're helping the customer, and you're helping society at large. Good on ya.

But I can't help but wonder also if it isn't more like they need to get rid of this stock for some reason, but think the citizenry doesn't deserve to be armed.

I have no problem with the fact that Dealer A will sell a pistol to me for $600 but will sell a LEO the same pistol for $250. You might say well you're both civilians, but I don't mind the fact that my purchase helps make tools more affordable for law enforcement because Dealer A isn't discriminating against me, I'm allowed to buy the same product as the cops. But when the police can buy it and they refuse to sell it to me at all, and there's not a law in place tying their hands, that really rubs me the wrong way.

So my question is, will they sell this same 226 to anybody who can legally own it at another, non LEO price? If not then I think this stinks like a fish.

Part of the deal on the tradins that Interstate made was the fact that the guns were traded in for new.40 caliber 226's that the Toledo Ohio police dept decided to upgrade to. The trade ins were credited towards the new purchase of guns. Because the original guns were bought on a Police Letterhead for a Police dept, the old guns can only be legally sold to LEO's.

That is the way that it works for many gun companys. They can afford to cut LEO's a deal on personal guns because of the volume that various depts. order, and like anything else, the more you order, the cheaper it gets.

Some states have laws that limit how this is done. Remember that Ohio is not exactly the most gun firendly state, their ruling class is a bunch of prima donnas that are predominatlty anti-gun and the thought that "police guns" are our on the streets can cause many of them to wet their britches.

So, as to get rid of a suplus of guns, Interstate requires either a letterhead if purcheased for a dept, or a copy of ones police ID if purchased for "off duty use". That way everything is in accordance with the law, and everybody is happy.

Its not a conspiracy, it just the way things are done in some places.Some places have no restrictions on disposal of old guns, others do.

Well see I understand your answer but I have to give this whole thing a big :frown:

All this deal really means then is that laws are in place that make society more dangerous via legislation designed to disarm the citizenry, making the sweet deal on the Sigs a sugar coating on a bitter pill.

When you consider that everyone who lives in Ohio swallows this bitter pill and only a few taste the sugar coating, that makes it even worse.

I don't blame the dealer here, they can't do anything else, but my tinfoil sense was correct. This does stink like a fish.

They should sell LEOs Sigs for 300 clams because they want to be upstanding supporters of LE, not because of some weird legal circumstance. Once again, not the dealers fault, but I don't approve of the circumstances here at all.

A much better solution would be to change the laws to sell the guns at this discounted rate to LE and at a regular rate to anyone else. This way the trade in values of the old service pistols could have been higher.

Sounds good.Unfortunatley a lot of states have these provisons. My own state dosent. Since these guns come from another state, I have to comply with their regulations.

Isn't also something about the standard Federal Excise Tax being waived when it's a LEO purchase?

Okay I just was wondering if anything might be affected on the wholesale level in that regard not payment but any restrictions on sales.

It is my understanding, though maybe wrong, that firearms sold by the mfg. that go through a LEO only sales system are not charged that tax.

Well...I got the guns.

Both of them looked good. They may have been carried alot, but my own duty Sig 220 has more holster wear on it than either of those did. They sure dont appear too have been shot much. I guess those Ohio cops jus dont shoot as much as we do.

I can highly reccomend them for the price...:hand10:
