After a having my permit for a few months now and anxiously awaiting the day I would finally buy my gun it has all fallen into place. I made my first official carry tonight and I thought I'd just hop in and share my experience.
My IWB holster, the Minotaur MTAC arrived in the mail today which made today the day. I wore the holster around the house empty for the afternoon to get used to the feel and start molding it to my body. When my fiancee got home it was time to run a few errands.
Initially, she was very hesitant and nervous about me carrying... even though she encourage me to get my CWP and to buy my gun. She expressed concerns about the Sig not having a safety and it going off in my pants and all but I told her to put it behind her because I had to start some time. She ended up relenting... I think she was just nervous about it.
So I holstered my newish Sig P239 .40 S&W and headed off to dinner. It was uneventful, and I felt pretty comfortable in the restaurant since we weren't moving around all that much.
We needed to make a Target run, so I've substituted Target for WalMart for this experience. I felt very conscious about my weapon and there was a bit of awkwardness for some reason. I wouldn't say I was nervous, but I was fidgety with my shirt a little bit because I was concerned about printing and/or being made. We were in Target for a total of about 45 minutes and I felt more and more comfortable as time went on. I came to the realization that nobody could tell and it got easier.
When we left I breathed a bit of a sigh of relief. My first real public carry in a real-life situation had been uneventful. My fiancee said that she'd been a little conscious of it as well but said even when she kept looking me over there was never any sign that I was carrying.
Overall I think it went well. I feel like I've gotten that first nervous and somewhat awkward test out of the way and I should get more and more comfortable with it until I end up more or less just forgetting that I have it at all.
So anyway, that's my story if anyone is interested. If not, sorry for boring you with a lot of text!
