Any recommendations for the best mag pouches? I'm looking for black leather snap on for a single Kahr P9. I saw one on the net that the back came up and over the belt forming the snap. I liked that one because it seemed it might stay in place a while even if it came unsnapped since the flap went over the top and between the belt and pants. I know slotted slip on's are the most secure but I want something that's easier to put on and take off. Andrews leather makes one that seems inexpensive that I might try. I looked for some kydex versions but they seemed to be a little be more elaborate than what I'm looking for.

And a question, how many extra mags do you guys typically carry? I normally carry one but have toyed with the idea of either one and a light in a pouch or two mags?

Any thoughts?

thanks!

I have an Uncle Mikes and Fobus mag pouch deals but only really use them when doing IDPA. Have yet to get a nice leather pouch and that will have to be something for Kevin in the future.

All too often - a mag goes into pocket!

As for kydex , I like the Uncle mikes single pouch. Don't have any leather to comment on.

Kevin at K & D holsters have made several great ones for me. I don't know if he has any snap ones. I previously have ordered some pocket ones from PaleHorseleather/Ron Graham - they were excellent BUT communication was awful and they were way way behind what they told me. But the end product was excellent.

I have a single leather Galco mag pouch with the j-hook for the belt when I carry. Easy on easy off but stays in place very well. Kinda costly at $40 but I figure it's the last one I'll buy (unless I lose it). For IDPA, I use a double Uncle Mike kydex.

Wow, you guys are great. A simple question and immediately some good helpful info. I wish I had the opportunity to help more of you with good stuff instead of always being the one to ask but thanks!!

I'll check these out. I need one to match up with my Kahr.

God Bless!

Every time a question is asked we all have the opportunity to think about our own answers as well as reading thoughts from others on the list. Therefore, I'd say you are helping.

I have tried the single mag pouches as well as the mag/flashlight variety. The single pouches (including single flashlight pouches) take up less space on the belt, and I am leaning towards switching to them exclusively. Also, as much as I like my combo pouch, I feel like I risk flashing a mag every time I get my flashlight out.

As far as how many spare mags to carry: I currently carry one but I think I may start carrying two just to balance out my load a bit.

I've tried Milt Sparks' D4C double mag carrier, they're made exactly like what you're looking for. It's very well built and stable but man does it fit tight when new! Had to use both hands and a fair amount of swearing to pull the mags free. Add to that it's harder to get a decent hold on the mag when the doubles hold two so close together - at least it is for me. I'll stick to singles from now on, whether it's one or two of them. Plus, two singles would give more choices on how to position them around belt loops.

I think I seen this on Milt Sparks web site. Wrap your mag or pistol in wax paper. I've used two layers for his mag pouch and Versa Max 2. Have to let it sit a couple of weeks sliding it in and out during this time. It works and the end product is worth it. I have a Brommel land double mag. Like the tilt but getting it through the belt loops is a major ordeal. Then there always seems to be pants loop in the wrong place. Wax paper did not help this one, tight and tighter. I like your idea. I will be getting a second Milt Sparks snap loop mag holder. A lot of thought and experience in the design.
