My IDPA group had a table at a gunshow to attract new members. One man was walking out with his wife and newly purchased firearm when we approached him about joining the range and club.

US: Heh, you need a place to shoot and practice with your new purchase?

HIM: Naw this is just an airsoft pistol.

US: Well if you have other guns we would be glad to give you some info about our club and range.

HIM: I only have one other gun. The reason I am buying this is for my wife to keep at home while I have the pistol at work.

US: Huh?

HIM: Well last week we had somebody break in and steal our window AC unit. Since I carry the pistol with me in the truck I wanted something to keep at home so I bought this.

US: WHAT?

HIM: This looks alot like the real thing and my wife hasn't handled guns alot. I figure if someone breaks in just the sight of her pointing this at them will be enough to scare them away.

US: Beggin Pleading that this was not a smart move.

HIM: Refusing to see the error in his reasoning

US: Offering free membership and training to him and the wife.

HIM: Walking away.

US: Standing in stunned silence.

Oh well there are all kinds.

I'm thinking that if she can just get the Bad Guy to play along...He could break into her home and she could plug him with her Airsoft pistol...he could then pretend he's dead till the cops get there...and they could slap a set of toy handcuffs on him...drag him away & everything should work out OK. :wink:

The cops could also plant some Monopoly money on him - so as to make sure he goes to jail, does not pass "GO" and does not collect $200 :biggrin:

Criminy. I'd leave the gun at home and do without if I were him.

And knowing what I do about where to find a decent gun at a low price, I'd only do without for a couple of months.

I understand people aren't made out of money but I seen a Taurus 85 the other day for $110! I'd pay it out in installments if I had to.

Goodness there was a perfectly decent Ruger next to it for $220. Granted neither are ideal, but it's a lot better than a sharp stick.

If I only had the one gun I'd tell her "Here you take this" and then go looking for a deal as soon as I had $50 for a down payment in my pocket.
