Went to the range today with the USP .40 , SA Champ. .45 , and the AR. Unloaded the carry ammo from both pistols and shot away. No problems and then , went to the AR. Besides the cheap red dot failing , no problems with the long gun.
I reloaded the carry ammo, and accidentally mixed up the .40 and .45 ammo I unloaded from the tube. Got a .40 in the .45 mag. Luckily I caught it right away, wondering why I had an extra .45 hydrashock.
Let this be a lesson to all others, I purposely separated the ammo , but it still got mixed up. Just one round, but it could have been catastrophic. stay safe out there all. :frown:

That could have been quite the real mess.
Luckily, I usually don't shoot any calibers that close when I shoot.

It's extremely difficult to mix up .22 rimfire w/ .45acp & .223 Remington. :rofl:

I am considering switching to a .45 USP, just for caliber convenience sake. Thing is, I have had the USP .40 for so long , I am not sure I can part with it.
On the plus side , the M5 streamlight I mounted on the USP works fine and didn't come loose.

I saw a .40 round that was actually fired in a .45. At a local shooting range here in Denver, my shooting buddy asked for a box of .45's, and the desk jockey handed him a box of .40's by mistake. My buddy didn't notice the screw-up, and loaded a magazine, chambered a round, and fired it (I think it was in an XD-45). It went off, and all it did was rupture the case (fortunately). The case didn't extract.

Got a .40 in the .45 mag. Luckily I caught it right away, wondering why I had an extra .45 hydrashock.

At a recent IDPA match, I was using my G21 for the regular stages and my G27 for a BUG stage. I made the same mistake, stuffed a .40 cartridge into the G21 mag. It zipped out instantly when my thumb released the round.

When guideing in Maine, I had a sport take 3 shots at a nice bull moose with his .30-'06. I was about 50 yards from him and I noticed that they sounded kinda funny. The moose wasn't touched and ran off. I walked over to the sport and quickly discovered that he had shot 3,.270rds. thru his .30-'06 chambered Rem.700.

After that I checked all weapons and ammo before the hunt started.

I later caught a guy starting to load his .308 with some .243 rds.

Also had a sport that shot a grouse(on the wing) with a 12ga. SLUG........by mistake. --------

Good catch Rock. Even the best laid plans can get you in bad situation. Always try to be aware and observant. Nobody is perfect and everyone is going to make a mistake. We're all human. Good catch!

Boy, I hope I remember to switch out my 22 conversion kit off the Gold Cup after I'm done at the range, or I'll let you know how a 45 goes into the 22 bore!

I've done that before too. However since I started carrying the 357SIG it's pretty obvious if I am trying to load an incorrect round, and the slide won't close if I try using .40.

On the other hand it'd be a real pain if I tried loading the 357 into the 40 barrel.
