New to the group and this is my first real post …did an intro but I don’t count that.

last June I had A stroke, thankfully it only affected my left arm and leg and I have been able to recover most use of the arm and leg. My left hand has been giving me some trouble and it is affecting the shooting of my favorite gun, Glock 26. Mostly due to its weight.

my wife has a KelTec PF9 that works well for me. Very snappy but that isn’t much of an issue for me.

I have considered a Glock 43. But it really doesn’t seem much smaller than my 26. The G42 sounds great except for ammo cost. I’m lookin for a single stack.

any help appreciated

If you are interested in staying with Glocks, here are my 2 cents worth (having owned multiple copies of the 26, 43, and 42).

The 26 is a shooter, not so much the 43. Can it be shot, yep you bet, but it is not as easy to shoot - and with a limited ability to use your left hand, it will be even harder.

The 42 is a VERY, soft shooting pistol. If you don't mind going with a .380, then you should check it out. A BIG difference between shooting the 43 and 42 - specifically at speed, on the move, strong hand only/weak hand only, on a moving target, etc. etc.

There are other guns out there too, hopefully you have a range nearby with a good rental wall to possibly try some out.

Good luck on your decision.

I appreciate that you’re reaching out for help, and I’m sure there will be plenty of helpful advice. But not being in your shoes knowing the full extent of your situation or abilities. I would heartily recommend that you go to your local gun store or range to speak with someone. Handle different types of pistols to see what feels and fits you best.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking. I also have been considering the other single stack 380s (lcp2, bodyguard, tcp etc.) but all reviews seem to suggest the 42 is the best shooter

I’ve talked with sales people at most the store here. All I get are sales pitches😕

I don't know if "best" is the "best" word ;) , but VERY SOFT shooting, it is. I have also have been told that the SIG P365 .380 is a VERY soft shooter too.

Hopefully you can rent or borrow one or both of them to try them out.

Glock 42 is def a big idea to think about ... You can get a 9x18 mak barrel as well as sometimes you can find 9mm mak pretty cheep . 380 has come way down in cost I have seen it at 18 or so a box of 50 now for good brass stuff sure not as low as the 11-15 for 50 rounds of 9mm but ...

Another question you say pocket gun what you think of as a pocket size gun ? Like does it need to fit in dress pants or are we talking roomy jeans etc ? As that is another though

I mean a Bretta 380 would be a great choice one of the old steel frame of the new 80x as they are heavier and will be easier to shoot but not pocket guns

A ruger Sercuit 380 is not pocket size but easy to rack and load

I currently pocket carry the 26 usually wear cargos. The weight is mor of a problem now. I was thinking that with the size and weight of the single stacks loose jeans would be an option. Now with jeans the 26 is in a sneaky Pete holster. And since I am working at (and succeeding) losing my gut. IWB is in my future 😀

You have plenty of great options that’s for sure.
It sounds like your left hand is giving you some trouble still. It might be smart to consider how easy the take down , cleaning and reassembly is . For this reason a small pocket gun like the Sig 938 might not be right for you on that account and a deal breaker. Maybe

Take down is an issue. But I can manage with my Glock and my P32.

Ok got you that helps with that pocket size

So what would say is if you can at least handle or better if fire the following guns

1. Sig 238 or 938
2. Sig 365 380
3 . Glock 42
4. Ruger LCP MAX
5. Wild card is Sig 232 the old school all metal 380

All of these should be /are soft shooting and all I can tell you 100% will carry great in a pocket ... And the 365 and LCP have the plus that they have 10+ round mags for a pocket gun so that will helps

If you can handle either of them you should be good with any of the guns listed as the keltec I have found is the hardest of the pocket guns to take down esp if you have big hands or limited hand use

The 365 is getting close in size to the 26. Also safeties are a problem for me.

I think you will like the 365

The big plus is that since the trigger group is the controlled part of the gun you can very easily get a larger or smaller frame on it ..So think on that as well .. Now I am need to look if the 380 model is the same fire group as the 9m though

I know with the 9mm gun its cool you an go from the SAS model ( ie the slim gutter sight model ) to the full size Xmacro 17 round frame pretty easy so they are pretty open to change .

With sig making 12 round mags for the 380 model its a big plus

Oh and I think Sig has a deal going now where if you get a 365 you get a credit to buy ammo from there store as well

Since you have and like a Glock seems like the G42 might be an option. Maybe a range in your area rents one to try out.

I have four sizes of carry guns that I use, from smallest to largest: Diamondback DB9, Sig P365, Sig P365XL, Sig P320 X-Carry
Had a db380 when they first came out. Loved shooting it. Only one problem, the trigger fell apart 3 times. When I got it back fro DB the last time, I sold it.

are they reliable now?

With arm, hand, strength issues you start introducing the possibility of inducing a malfunction in a semi automatic.

Are you open to revolvers?
