I'm very critical of our politicians misusing military forces as world (and the recent trend of national) police, and politicians turning police into a militarized force. We saw National Guard side by side Sheriff deputies disarming citizens. I think the message of the "Oath Keepers" is a good one to spread, but they need to stick close to the facts and not castigate a much needed and typically very professional service.

From the website:
In April 2013 the Boston bombing saw another line being blurred when the military suddenly popped into view working side by side with local police –
MA National Guard provided support for the marathon. NG units often volunteer at these types of events to support community service and public relations. Doesn't strengthening community bonds reinforce the Oath Keepers' goal?
NG Civil Support Teams and Navy Explosive Ordnances Disposal units provided aid to federal agencies after the explosion, but again, isn't this helpful, not "confiscation"?

I saw lots of federal agencies in paramilitary unifirms working with MSP, but I didn't see U.S. armed forces providing law enforcement activities. Katrina aftermath was bad. The militarization blame post Boston bombing lies squarely upon federal LE agencies; not USMC or US Army.

I'm all for it!

However, I'm pretty sure Obama and Napolitano declared the Oathkeepers a potential domestic terrorist group.

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would be a good location for one.

Wouldn't surprise me. Folks demanding oath-keeping are in the way of absolute control.

And so are we, the armed free citizens in the several states.

Absolutely, people are sadly mistaken if they believe our military will follow orders to turn on the US Constitution and the citizens it protects.
Agreed, the government is trying to think of a way to demonize it enough where it "seems acceptable." I personally think even they are getting too cocky and arrogant in their approach that they think they could actually achieve such a thing.

Let's not forget the Combat Arms Survey conducted in 1994 by retired LCDR Cunningham.

Question 46 is the kicker:

The U.S. government declares a ban on the possession, sale, transportation, and transfer of all non-sporting firearms. A thirty day amnesty period is permitted for these firearms to be turned over to local authorities. At the end of this period, a number of citizen groups refuse to turn over their firearms.

Consider the following statement;

I would fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the U.S. government.
The results were that 25% of Marines said that they would indeed fire upon U.S. citizens who refused to disarm themselves. While that is far from the majority, it's still an unfortunate number.

Believe me, those numbers have definitely dropped... Definitely dropped...
I see more Obama bashing then supporting on base, as evidenced by our sign outside the gate in the OP post :)

Most of the youngsters in the military were not taught that much about the constitution in school. They take the oath and count on leadership to give lawful orders.
New Orleans was National Guard. Kent State, National Guard, Birmingham, National Guard. So far it looks like governors getting off track. When we hear about the army and marines, look out.

Historical note: The Alabama National Guard was Federalized by Kennedy. It was not the Governors decision to send them to the school

The other 75% would force them to stand down; I was in the military for 24 years and we used to have these discussions.

I can also say without a doubt, any member of the military that fired upon US citizens, would be taken out by their own unit members. That citizen that was just shot may have been a family member of someone in that unit. Do people honestly think service members would stand idly by while their family members and/or friends were being gunned down?

I'm personally not worried about the US Military, who does worry me is the DHS gestapo.
