OK. I am planning to travel to Nevada in a couple weeks to attend a Front Sight class. I have reviewed the info on handgunlaw.us and other sites and I want to confirm my understanding. I have an Idaho resident permit and a Utah non-resident permit. The Utah permit used to allow me to carry concealed in Nevada, but that has changed.
Since Nevada is an open carry state, am I safe in simply tucking my cover shirt behind my gun while I am in Nevada? Even when driving?
I heard there is a registration card required to open carry in Clark county and that N. Las Vegas has special requirements. Without the open carry registration, I assume I would need to unload and separate the ammo and gun. However, the Federal Firearms Transportation Statue is scary since I drive an SUV:
"That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console."
Here's my problem. There are four of us going which means I am transporting close to 4000 rounds of ammo and 6 handguns (I'm taking 3 of my own). I'll need a pretty big locked container. I suspect if they are all unloaded and cased, I would be OK so I would only have to deal with my carry gun when I get to the Nevada border (tuck in my cover shirt?) and when I get to Clark County (unload and separate ammo/gun in back). Now I need to find out where Clark county starts.
Anyone have more experience in Nevada that can provide some input? Am I over-analyzing?
