I'm a 21 year old college student in Southern NJ. My primary home is in Northern NJ. I've been reading the forum for a few weeks now, and am looking to buy my first gun as soon as my Federal Firearm License over the summer (I have to be 21 to buy my first pistol).
I'm looking forward to getting to know all you guys, and learning things from you.
Welcome to the forum, Jim. My youngest son turns 21 in September and will be making the same decision. He's leaning heavily towards a 1911 since that is what I usually have had for him to shoot. But he has had a chance to try out the Glock 30, Sig P226, Springfield XD-40 and my S&W 5904. He likes the .45acp best at this point.
Hey Jim...How did I somehow miss tossing my Hearty Welcome over toward your direction? Welcome Member!
Better Late Than Never.
Welcome to the forum & you sure will get to know us and the reverse.
We'll all be looking forward to getting a report on your first pistol.
And Bumper...your son ~ "He likes the .45acp best at this point."
A fine example of good parental influence!
I'm definately interested in one of the HK USP variety pistols, but I'm not sure which model in particular I want.
I want either a 9mm 40S&W or .45 ACP USP Compacts or a .45 ACP Full Size.
For a target / plinking pistol, I want a Ruger 22/45 with a 5 1/2 " Bull Stainless Barrel. I also want to use this .22 to teach friends and my girlfriend to shoot.
Those are the two I want to pick up first. After I get out of school, I would like to pick up a Kimber Custom TLE II/RL and equip it with a Surefire X200 and LaserTrace Grips. I'd also like to purchase a .22LR conversion for it.
The forth and fifth pistols I want to buy are a Sig Sauer 226 and a S&W .357.
After I'm established in a home I'd like to purchase a Remington 870, a carbined colt rifle.
Welcome! Sounds like you have a nice shopping list put together. Remember not to blow all your cash on frivolous things like food, shelter, etc. so you can fill up your safe.
Don't forget to throw questions at us. There are some well-informed folks on this forum.
I have a some experience with the USP Compact .40 - let me know if I can be of assistance.
Thanks for the input. Any experiences that you can throw my way would be appreciated. I'm going to try and find a place where I can rent the 4 different varities of USP before I make my final decision. Ultimately I'll buy whichever one of them is most comfortable for me to shoot.
Eventually I'll buy a few other varities of USP though, including a tactical model and a Mark 23 (yeah, I know technically it's not a USP...but...).
Jim - Welcome to the forum.
I have to echo SSKC's comments, any advice you need will gladly be put forth, just remember tho that many of us lean heavily towards the 1911 platform and the 45ACP cartridge. That doesn't mean that there aren't guns just as worthy of attention. Only that we are dinosaurs and trust time proven equipment.
