Finally got to the range with the Rossi 357 snub and also my newly purchased (yesterday) Kimber ultra. The range had 45 acp 230 FMJ's for $18 per 50! Woo hoo!

This little snub impressed the hell out of me. At 5 yards I was able to do the below pic with the first 6 rounds of 158gr hollow points. (note outlined two shots in black so you could see them better). VERY impressed from a 2" snub. I will say, recoil and muzzle flash was pretty stout though. After 30 rounds, I had had enough and put her away.

Then on to what I really went there for, to the Kimber test. I am always wanting to see if these Kimbers will be the jam factory so many on the web claim they become. I had 2 failure to feeds in in the first 25 rounds and thought, CRAP! But I noticed it was only with my new Chip McCormick mag. And you could tell the mag wasn't pushing the round up for some reason, it wasn't a normal FTF where the nose is stuck on the feed ramp or anything, it was 100% the mags fault. I pulled the McCormick mag from use and shot the remaining 125 with the Kimber factory mag and did not have ONE SINGLE PROBLEM! Dead solid reliable as my Pro Carry 2 was from day 1 also.

The accuracy of the Kimber Ultra is nothing short of astonishing (just like my 4" Pro Carry). I shot the below red circled group at 10 yards, using the number 8 as my point of aim. That was after a few mags of "warm ups" that you see in the blue.

Heck, even when stretched to 25 yards, I was still able to hold 3-4" groups. How is that possible from a 3" barrel? The Rock Island compact, Citadel compact, and AC Commander I have had all shot well, but nothing like this. Kimber's are just the most accurate 1911 I have ever shot (please note, I know that the $2000-$3000 customs probably shoot this well, but I don't have the scratch to buy one).

I walked away feeling pretty good. My last 50 rounds I changed targets and shot from 7yds to 15yds, fairly rapidly, just trying to get the gun to jam, it never did and this is my target from those 50......

Then I came home and broke her all down and cleaned it up and lubed it up. I am very pleased. Once again, not only did the Kimber prove reliable, it proved reliable with the "crappy" Kimber factory mags. Love it!

Oh, and here is a quick video showing the Kimber recoil vs the 357 magnum defense loads. WOW! It was so bad, I blew the internal mic on my cell phone. Now when I call people, they can't hear me!

The .357 kicked that much more? Thats interesting. Glad you are enjoying the new addition to the collection! Have you figured out a possible holster for it yet?
Thanks for the range report. Whadya know, another Kimber performed well. Not surprised about that at all. You and I had opposite results with shooting star mags. Mine have performed flawlessly. I guess it is somewhat specimen-dependent.

I have wondered about Rossi .357s. Good to know you had a positive experience with it. Enjoy your new acquisitions.

I am using a Galco N3 and my trusty old Galco King Tuck. Carried all day in the N3, not sold on it just yet though. And yes, that .357 magnum load surprised the heck out of me. Keep in mind, the Kimber only weighs 31oz loaded so it is light for a .45 and the Rossi still packs a big wallup.

Interesting about the mags. I wonder if I should hold on to it until past break in. I had planned on selling it and just buying kimber pro tac mags (which my Pro Carry loves).

The .357 is for the wife, but after today I think I may go get some .38 special rounds for her.
+1 on the pro tac mags. I have those for my ultra carry and they have been flawless.
