If you do go forward with getting your permit and beginning to carry, I would recommend taking some courses that will get you proficient with drawing from your carry rig and getting shots on target, and also that will familiarize you with the laws of your state and the shoot/no shoot decision-making process. You will find that to be worthwhile, I think.
