Am I paranoid in thinking obama is trying to disarm america? A friend of mine who is a history teacher said that throughout history when a government tries to over power the people and tax them to hell and back... Like obama is doing, then at some point the people revolt against the government and start a revolution. She said its happened in other countries and believes its only a matter of time before we are next? Do you agree or disagree and why?

"All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

"At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

Do I agree that the Federal gov't will overtax and there will be revolution? No, I don't think that.
Obamawama is a pile of vile oderous excrement. He will do all in his power to destroy America whether through taxation or gun control.

The half of the country living off the other half sure isn't going to revolt until the freebies run out. They aren't the ones I would want on my side anyways. They are the problem, not the solution.
I think "instability" is in the back of the minds of many people. In my lifetime of 60 years, I don't ever recall being this concerned.

I can't answer whether this is by "design" or not, but there are plenty of red flags waving.

Well let's see, the last time we had a revolution, not a civi l war, it was fueled by high taxes, oh and there was that thing about rounding up all the guns, shot, and powder in Lexington and Concord.
Just like a fart in the wind, this too will pass. You asked if you were paranoid...the answer is yes. good luck

I was stationed in some shaky countries while in the military and was a contractor in many of those countries that in recent years the governments have been overthrown by socialist or extremist. Yes, the peoples of these countries set back and allowed their governments to strip them of their rights, freedom, using the almost exact agenda as our present administration is using. What is the average American presently doing to prevent this from happening, very little. Can or will it happen to us? Yes in the very near future and most likely without a shot being fired.

Both parties have financial & political incentive to maintain partisan divisions. They hire highly trained professionals to help them do it. It might not be completely by design, the Robber's Cave experiment (highly recommended reading) shows that we're dummies when tempted to become partisan, but there're certainly people trying to do this by design.
I don't think a revolution is going to happen. I do believe inspite of the current trend the Constitution will prevail. If you have no faith that your Constitution works then you must believe President Nixon left the White House because the cooking was bad.

How bad the backlash is from this current trend only time will tell. I think another four after Obama will still be Democrat. Then the economy and lack of jobs for those willing to work will bring a swing back to the right and then settle in the middle.

Currently there are a lot of workers on the Government Tit that are receiving lay off notices. There will be base closures and a reduction in Military force leaving us vulnerable and the American people don't accept that well.

I have said before I signed and took an oath Both Foreign and Domestic. I have fought on the ground in a war and I do not think I could look down my sights and see another American and pull the trigger I guess I am off to a camp in my old age if it takes me taking up arms against my own country.

You say you want a revolution . . . Well, you know . . . . We all want to change the world

You say you'll change the constitution . . . Well, you know . . . . We all want to change your head

You say you've got a real solution . . . Well, you know . . . . We'd all love to see the plan

Please stick to the gist of the OP. Obama/Disarm America/Resulting in Revolt?

Please do not stray away form that.
History has a way of repeating itself.
The half of the country living off the other half sure isn't going to revolt until the freebies run out. They aren't the ones I would want on my side anyways. They are the problem, not the solution.
Its all started back in 1964, under LBJ when the walfare system was started. Once a person stars getting the free cookies and milk from the Government, there is no way in hell they will vote to have that free cookies and milk takin back. So year after year, the liberal socialist added to the walfare state, things are now to the point that America has more people living off the Government hand outs, than it has people who work. So all those TEND TO VOTE FOR A LIVING are running this country now and Barack Obama wants it that way. The working few has no chance to ever win America back..Its a dying country, slow but sure....
I guess the moral solution is to refuse to take your own entitlements from the pockets of the next generation, and to be a proactive political voice. What else can someone do?

Well, I guess the other major thing to be done is to help grow the economy (by creating either efficiencies or innovations, proactively), such that the net income available rises to meet the demand.

I just don't think there's a major disarmament agenda for sinister reasons. Like a mad cackling "first we take away the guns, and then we raise the taxes!". Socially, balancing the books and firearms are viewed (by the majority) as rather separate issues, and the politicians likely see them the same way. People give so many reasons why they should have their gun ownership accepted, and only a few of those reasons resonate outside of the pro-gun crowd. Many of them can seem kooky, and it's important that we all realise that.

There's no level of gun-freedoms that will restore America's fiscal viability or make entitlements sustainable. They're different stories. And the battle against entitlements is ham-strung by the hypocrisy of those who're against them, but will still take them (at the expense of the next generation). That protest sign "keep the government hands out of MY Medicare" got a lot of traction.

First let me be the first to congratulate your teacher for having such notions. Are you in a public school system?

A revolt? That depends on your definition. There are many revolts from small & quiet to mass war.

"I don't wanna' go to work today." Small revolt.
Civil War. Massive revolt.

It is the small revolts that carry the most danger since large revolts will eventually die down.

"I don't wanna' go to work today"

There are a few possibilities here. One can decide that this is not a good idea...ya' might get fired eventually or....

You like the idea of not working. (read Entitlements) Eventually you will get fired. You might decide a life of crime is the way to go if you can't find a job.
Possible end result could be life threatening to you and others.

So many believe a Civil War will just break out any second. This is not how large scale revolts start. It is many (small) things that eventually lead to violent revolt.

Right now in this period of history, there are more small things then ever before that threaten freedom.

Yes, the pot is boiling; the lid is on tightly; the escaping pressure is beginning to whistle; few with ears to hear can detect the sound of escaping gas.
(They) say they believe a revolt is not possible. What they really mean is they (HOPE) one is not coming.

I (Hope) I will win the lottery tomorrow. Highly doubtful.
