I live in one of the counties next to Toledo. I seldom ever go there and so far it's been no problem, although they have some screwed up laws on what can be carried legal. You may want to ask in the Ohio Forums, http://ohioccwforums.org/ for more info.
This is why we need to get the current bills in the legislature passed and signed into law. Not only will they do away with the stupid "in plain sight" provision when in a vehicle but they would make state law actually valid throughout the state and do away with the myriad city laws that are impossible to keep up with.
To answer rocky's question - No, Toledo did not ban semi-auto handguns. However they do have rediculous "points system" to validate what handguns can and can't be carried. They also have a law that magazines can't be loaded more than 10 deep. If you have a hi-cap mag that is ok - you just can't load it all the way. I'm from the Toledo area, and I don't worry about it too much. I pretty much just shut up and carry.
Regarding the legislation going around right now (specifically HB347), having Bob Shaft as gov is not a valid reason to not push for its passage. Kansas just overrode their communist governor to pass concealed carry. We can do it too. We just have to keep reminding our elected officials who they work for.
And dpesec - I think the incident you're referring to is where the man challenged Toledo's right to ban firearms in parks by making it known he was packing in the park so he could have the court case. I think he lost, but I'm not very familiar with the incident.
LOL, I love the name Shaft. Sad part is his forefathers are rolling in their graves over his terms.
Let's hope the other party doesn't capitalize on it and take control. That would signal a major push to revoke our "permits". Strange, I always thought protection of my life and property was a right. Oh well, I guess not here in Ohio.
