DEVELOPING: 9:25 am At least one active shooter was reported on the campus of the Ohio State University Monday and as many as eight people were reportedly injured.

The State has restricted OSU making the campus a gun free zone. The students have actively been trying to have the law overturned

Today the campus security tweeted, "active shooter on campus, run, hide in place, fight." Pretty disparaging considering this is a gun free zone.

Dispatch that a car initially rammed Watts Hall about 9:40 a.m., and at least two people got out of the car. One person had a gun, while the second appeared to have a large knife, according to the Dispatch.

The local news just spoke with a young lady who has locked herself in a bathroom to protect herself. There's at least one body bag present in front of Koffolt Labs," read the tweet. "OSU police still advising to take shelter. Situation not under control."

The sprawling, 58,000-student main campus in downtown Columbus is one of the nation's largest.

11:00am single shooter down and campus secure

What can any person do in this situation in a Gun Free Zone?

I think if I were still a student I'd find a way to carry something even if it was a kevlar-lined briefcase insert (only $25 on Amazon). Obviously calling it a GFZ doesn't make it so.

Hope they resolve it soon and rethink the GFZ rule.

OSU Senior Kameron Anderson says, “I’m not gonna have a gun in class ‘cause I feel that it’s not needed.”

“(It) Definitely makes a victim safer to have a gun with you, but it’s also not gonna make me safe that you have a gun with you,” he says.
Yeah who is he gonna go hide behind when bullets start flying. Ask him again after this event resolves. Nothing like fear to make you rethink your choices.

According to the news article you can have guns on campus but with the rule (or law?) you have to keep them in your car. Want gun on campus? Break into a student's car.

Also, how do you get them to the car? Magic, teleportation, lol.

If you can have on campus then it's splitting hairs as to where. New bill will allow carry, though.

Sadly with the logic used in the anti gun movement, this event will validate their "Gun Free Zone"

No story here now, it was an active knifer instead so there will not be anything to sensationalize or to demand more laws.

The Latest: Ohio St spokesman says suspect in attack is dead

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Latest on reports of an active shooter on the Ohio State University campus (all times local):

12:50 p.m.

A spokesman for Ohio State University says a suspect in an attack on campus that injured at least eight people has been shot and killed.

Ben Johnson also said Monday that injuries in the attack included stab wounds and being struck by a vehicle.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the suspect is believed to have initially struck people with a car before beginning to stab victims. There was no indication that the suspect shot anyone. The official wasn't authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Interesting--saw a post from Bearing Arms quite some time ago saying it was not a shooter attack at all--guess they were right. Always the first impulse of the media to report as "shooting"--guess not as interesting as just waiting to be sure--then reporting a "car and knife attack". A knife is a very deadly weapon--some would say more so than a gun--but not at "glamorous" as saying 'active shooter" Oh well, at least they got him.

I know it is an on going investigation but there was no way around killing him, the suspect? Don't get me wrong, I do not support peta, if he needed to die so be it. We learn More from investigating through a live criminal. Maybe would gather more advice which could aid support in doing away with GFZ's. Then hang em high if he killed anyone.

Also amazing is how the story changes rapidly. Imagine if you were on campus laying low. Two people, one with gun & one with knife. ....

I agree, in the active situation you have to believe in your own instincts. Trust no one. It is important to have eyes on the situation guidance if possible. I have my phone on vibrate and get tweet from campus and local news while I see nothing going on where I am. Do I stay and hold, run back to my car and leave, grab my gun from the trunk?

There was nothing reliable being reported or anything of substance during this active scenario. We think we live in a real time world.

Yep. This will be used as a weapon against legal defensive carry. I think the ultimate goal is a disarmed and enslaved society. I've been preparing to bug out for a while now. Lots of rugged places to hide where I live. The winter alone is enough to run most folks off. I've also been learning how to live settler style.

I get sick of "active shooter" being parroted all over...whether in the news or on gun forums.

This is a perfect example of how politicians treat the symptoms and not the problem. This happened without the use of a firearm and is further proof that the problem is not the weapons used but a social mental problem. However, politicians cannot offer a quick new law to make people feel that they are doing something about it. Mass murders have always occurred in history but are given more media coverage now. There are already laws against murder so what else could politicians do other than go for the low hanging fruit, which is firearms. Are they now going to all butcher knives, assault knives and the vehicle an assault vehicle?

The problem is a sociological one and that takes more than mere legislation to solve. Perhaps if they stop publicizing mass murders, others would not want to get the same publicity as all the other mass murders. Do I really have a need to know about deaths in a State far away from me? Does the world have to know? The media makes these mass murders famous and hide behind the 1st Amendment as an excuse why they do it while trying to infringe on the 2nd Amendment. What excuse will they now use for this recent mass attack? I do not see any politicians calling for anti knife laws as would be the case if the person used a gun instead. It seems that all efforts are not to stop these kind of killings but rather lower the body count as if saving a few hundred lives will make a big difference in a country with a population of over 300,000,000 people. Infringe on the rights of so many to save so few seems to be the strategy. Once we go down that path, nothing that results in the death of people will be safe, like alcohol, cars and inept doctors.

Since it's over I can quip.

UP: A number of OS students were found huddled and hiding in a closet. Half of them had peed on themselves and the other half had thrown up on each other. When asked why they said 'We were told to 'run, hide and expectorate'. But couldn't remember if that word meant pee or barf, so we took turns. See, it worked!'

I'm waiting for the media to report it was a "Glock Knife".
If one of the students could have been legally armed, on campus, this somali refugee threat may well have been halted before the continued slashing of OSU students.IMHO
