Welcome to the forum! Thanks for the update - please keep us posted on any further changes. (I was born and raised in Ohio - their gun laws have always been pretty irrational.)

I take this to mean the media would be no longer allowed access? Good move but - surely a tad late in the day - as IIRC this was a major issue latter part of last year. Thus making it seem a lot of info already ''leaked''.
I am in favor of about anything that is pro the CCW folks - far too many hoops and hurdles as it is, for so many.

Welcome, from a fellow Ohioan! HR 91 would change many aspects of our current CCW law if it were to pass. Media access, car carry requirements, and duty to notify (LEO) to name a few. Unfortunately, they are trying to fix all the bad parts in one fell swoop, and with the sitting governor I don't think this bill will go too far. IMO, it would be better to fix things a little at a time, i.e. media access, car carry this session and go on down the list in subsequent sessions. It would be great if HR 91 could pass, but as I mentioned earlier, I think it is over zealous. Perhaps, after Taft is gone... :wink:Bodie said:

I beleive the reason that they are asking for so much, is for room to bargain.
We need help on the car carry issue for sure. On media access, if it could be tightened up. Instead of allowing media to ask for all the names. Restrict access to a written request for info on a person. One name only, that being the person they writing their story on.

Two things that are trying to be changed, maybe this summer, is media access and carrying in the car. The media access has already proven to be a problem since newspapers seem to feel it is their responsibility to print the names of those people who have obtained a CCW License. I like to think of it as the law abiding citizen list, but in reality it's nothing more then harrasement. It also may jeopordize the safety of those people and their families who's names have been printed.
The car situation is another mess, where in Ohio if you have a CCW License then you must carry openly when in a car. Then when you get out of the car you must carry concealed. Much too much handling of the weapon and for no reason.
A lot of these stipulations in the Ohio CCW Law were put there by our wonderful Governor in hopes that the State Congress would say the law was too retrictive and vote it down, which fortunately didn't happen. Now it's time to make changes. OFCC recommended who to vote into Congress and our Governor is looking at term limits. But still there are people out there who ignore the fact that Ohio was the 46th state to pass CCW, and that precedent shows that it works and is safe.
This is an ongoing battle that needs people to get involved. The first year results are in and most groups are admitting that the fears they had regarding the law have not occured. Still there was one newspaper that stated that since no one with a CCW License shot anyone then the law isn't really necessary. That's great logic.
Hopefully everyone in Ohio will not become complacent and will get involved and notify their State Representative that they want the law amended. I'll now get off my soap box.
