I am so tired of hearing people say that only LE need to be armed. Even the LE community plays this up (no disrespect intended). They always say that they go into harms way and need to be armed.

I agree with that, but I do not believe that they are the only one going to harms way each day. People doing going about their own everyday business are going into harms way. The LE (Wolf Hunters) are going into harms way hunting the wolves only after the wolves have attacked or eaten defenseless sheep.

What everyone (average citizens, Politicians, and LE) seem to forget is that we (everyday citizens) are the hunted.

Sorry, had to vent. All I need is an AMEN, somebody.

Amen

People don't understand that LE isn't always there when things take a turn for the worse. When seconds count, they are at best minutes away. You are the individual that is responsible for your own safety. Most sheep don't grasp this.

Unfortunately LE is primarily a "Reactive" force like you said earlier, they dont usually come into play until a crime or assault has already been committed. You get an AMEN from me !!

If that was true, there would be zero accounts of people defending themselves with their own weapons. The police would have already prevented any possible crime.

To be fair, this mindset tends to be most common in big city PD's and FOP leadership... which happens to be dominated by the northeastern police elitist culture: NYPD, Boston PD, DC Metro PD types.

Your average patrol officer or deputy sheriff tends to hold views more in-line with mainstream gun owners.

No, there is more then a Amen needed, but I will give you the big Amen anyways.

It's already been debated and put down that Law Enforcement does not have to protect the individual citizen, they have to protect society has a whole, but not the individual. So, no one can come at us and say only this or they/them should be armed since they have no responsibility to protect the individial citizen, it's up to us to protect ourselves.

We civilians live in harms way everyday. We never know when or where we will become a victim. The 2nd Ammendment was based on these circumstances. If we dont take any actions to protect ourselves, nobody will do it for us. It's rare that crimes are foiled in progress. LE is getting good at report taking after the crime has been comitted.

I'm going to say Amen, and add that Everyone should be armed, not just the LE, that way we don't have to depend on them, and we can actually help them.

As someone that is in LE, I can still agree with you.. I am not an agent/officer (think more like CSI) and I see first hand both sides of the dime.. The private citizen usually (90% of the time) gets "attacked" and an agent/officer has to respond.. At that point they are in harms way, but what about the person that was "attacked" in the first place..

I think a lot of the "LE only" mentality comes that most (i would say about 60% of the agents i work with) are NOT gun folks.. They only carry their weapon because the have to.. Where I work we do not see the day to day local cop thing, we investigate more white collar style crimes.. So most of the agents take their weapon off when they get to the office and put it back on when they leave for the day.. I have been fighting for years now to get the "privilege" to carry my firearm while i'm at work.. A lot of times I go out with agents and have to rely on them to protect me.. But what makes it really sad, if something happens and my "escort" gets injured or worse, killed, i'm not allowed to use their weapon to protect myself.. I have to curl in the fetal position and hope the person is a bad shot and runs out of ammo..

Funny, every Police officer I know wholeheartedly supports my CHL; but then again I live here in Texas - things are different here.....

AMEN brother and grant48 is right in regards to this is mostly an attitude with the larger northeast PD's like boston,NYC,NJ and such. I was born in Providence,RI but moved to Boston in my teenage years and I attest to the face that the people around these cities are by and large anti-gun,some of these people become LEO's and naturally their beliefs carry over. I've also noticed that most recruits for these big city PD's have never even tough a gun before entering the academy.

Obviously I'm not saying all LEO's are this was because they are not I think it depends were you live as well. I had a couple of buddies from high school who became LEO's in Massachusetts one on Boston PD the other a Massachusetts state trooper. And they were as pro gun as they come, they even insisted I use them as personal referances on my LTC-A application in Boston and after about a 6 months I got my class A LTC with no restrictions from the Boston PD.

My first carry gun was S&W 640 in .38 special i chose this gun as it was small, had decent power for defense and was easily concealed even in summer clothes, believe me you don't want to print around Boston, you will loose your permit and may even get arrested and charged with brandishing. Fast forward 10 years I live in Florida now and an LTC is a breeze here if your not a felon. The police here also have a much different attitude towards guns and self defense. I'd never move back to Boston or any other place that stripped me of my rights as a citizen to self defense. The police are not able to be everywhere so we must protect ourselves from violent attack,it happens everyday to law abiding citizens just like us.

There are cops who do police work. And there are cops who do politics, kissing certain politicians nether regions.

Street cops, even in places like NYC and Chicago support the rights of honest citizens. But they are prohibited from saying so in a public forum.

The Choir. Your preaching to it.:image035:

And I agree 100%. We are responsible for our own protection. LEO can arrive in time to collect the evidence.
