I'm hoping this thread may become a sticky where people living in open carry states can share their positive and negative OC experiences.

Anyway today was a nice day and a buddy and I decided to go to downtown Anchorage and grab a Buffalo sausage dog from one of the small hot dog stands. I was open carrying my G19 in my Serpa and two spare mags on my left side. I had a few people stare, but the only person to comment was another patron eating a hot dog, I think he had sort of a European accent as well, so it was kind of nice seeing a guy from Europe giving me a positive comment. My friend was asking about getting a buffalo sausage dog (they didn't have any), and the guy was like "why not just make your own, you have a gun!" He ended up getting a Reindeer sausage dog and I got a Polish one. Then we walked around downtown for about an hour, walked by a bunch of people but nobody said anything. Looks like another uneventful open carry story for the record!

Some people just dont get it, there will always be those ignorant people that just think being able to carry a weapon is just wrong.

Those people are just throwing their rights down the drain... Never has a Buffalo sausage or reindeer sausage... How are those???

I eat alot of Sheep Kabobs over here and they are great...

Most oc days are uneventful.
I was asked at a restuarant "are you a cop" I quickly replied no.
She said You should have said yes and you would have recieved a 20% discount. I could get alot more then a 20% discount by impersonating an officer I reminded her.
She agreed and charged me full price.

I don't know that I agree that his comment was a postive one unless the Europe guy and the guy who said "make your own" are not the same person. That comment is taken negatively by me as if because you are carrying you have the right to do what you want or at least that's his view of it. That's how I would have taken that. And I presume that is not how you feel about it? That it was positive?

I had to take my truck into the body shop the other day. Did not get any questions at the body shop during the first trip. Went to the rental car place. The guy asked me about my Serpa holster. Talked about it for a while. Found out he owns a few guns. Talked shotguns and handguns. Wrote down this wedsite and OCDO for him since I was OC'ing. Gave him the name of the local shooting range. Let him know that he did not need a permit to OC in NC. Went back to the body shop and the lady at the counter came out. Asked if I was LEO. Told her no, but OC was legal in NC. She replied. "Oh yeah, I forgot. My husband used to do that some." She has her CCP. Talked guns for a while with her. Lot's of carries to WW, Target, Best buy, Dick's sporting goods, around here with no problems. Even got my wife to accept it. I used to only carry when I went out. Now she does not even pay any attention that I am carrying. :danceban: I have talked to 3 LEO's in the last week while OC'ing. During the accident investigation the Trooper did disarm me. The 2 at the pawn shop did not even flinch while I was buying ammo. We talked bullets, JHP v FMJ.

When that guy told me I could just go get my own, he said it in a joking manner, so I knew he wasn't serious.

I took it (read it) that way too. Seems like he meant go shoot your own buffalo since you had a gun...since the guy didn't have any buffalo dogs..

Roger That, some people think that since we carry a gun we want to be LEO, some might.

But for the most part, we just want to be able to carry our weapon and be able to defend ourselves.... JMO
Amazingly enough, I've had very few comments in the last 25 years or so of mostly open carrying.

A few years back at a party at my dad's house, his attorney asked if I was afraid of something. I just said "Nope. Not a thing".

Another time I was grocery shopping with my wife, and a fella asked what kind of revolver I was carrying. No offense meant, or taken. We had a short but polite discussion about firearms rights, and then I had to go find my wife (she continued shopping).

Those are the only comments I can remember about me open carrying. No one notices, or they don't care.

I generally get better service when OC'ing.
I know what you mean. You meet the nicest people while OC'ing lol.

Most my trips while OC'ing happen just like yesterday. I went shopping at 4-5 different places and no one said a thing or even paid any attention to me. Although, I did drop by to visit my old place of employment and received the usual comment about me carrying, then proceeded to talk about guns for a half hour like usual

Anyways, most OC trips nothing ever happens.

My stories are too boring to write about. I did have a funny incident last year. I just finished pumping gas and was throwing something in the trash at the end of the pumps. The car on the other side had 4 younger guys in it. The driver saw my pistol while pumping gas and leaned in and told the others to put that "stuff" away. They quickly got real quiet and looked nervous. I just smiled at them told them to have a nice day.

Took a trip with the fam to IDAHO from WA for a week and had no problem OCing there and back. I got the usual looks but no problems. Stopped and ate in a IHOP, Carl JR's, Chilli's and BK through the time I was there. I also had no problem's at a Albertsons in Spokane and for the lady we stopped into Adam & Eve to get a LELO.:image035:. All in all it was a great week.
