Update:

I spoke with the guy who runs the "Pat Thomas
Law Enforcement Academy" and they do have a
place open for me at the school. I would have to
wait a few months before starting.

The whole program is 3 months..if I choose afterwards
to become a State Trooper then this school cuts the
time down from 30 weeks to 9 weeks.

Here's some pics of the place..guess I'm just excited

I think you should confirm the bit about being able to transition to a GSP program after doing basic. I was under the impression, perhaps incorrectly, that the two programs were entirely separate.

Is that info from the SP or is it from the school? Will it do the same for a job in another state?

I'd get it in writing from the SP before investing the time and money in the school. Remember, the school is a privately owned business and their sole purpose is to make money. Also talk to others who have actually attended the school. Do your own research and find graduates of the school, not names provided by the school.
You may be able to find additional information by posting here, although registering was not the smoothest when I did it:

No it is only good for Florida, thats my understanding.

Found out today that since I am not a resident of Florida,
the school is 4X the price. Instead of 2,500 it is well over
9,000 dollars!!

I saw some of the recruits out running. Looked like a lot
of younger kids who were out of shape.

Going to do some more checking before I sign anything.
