With the availibility of excellent Airsoft copiies of most CC weapons, Is anyone using these for regular Force on Force training. I know that personally myself & a group of friends that meet at the range every week have started to include full blown force on force training using Airsoft & rubber Knives batons & such. We normally include this in our standard weekly range time as the range allows us to use one of the spare bays or the tactical side of the range.

This type of practice has sure opened a few eyes to how fast stuff can happen. & alot of CC people have had letters sent home with them informing there wife they are dead.....

What is really nice is a few of us have worked either as LEO or as Exec. BodyGaurds & ex military so we are able to keep our skills honed & practice newly learned ones without the expense of Simunition.

Lets see what the rest of ya think.

I'd be more than willing to get into FoF. If I could get something going locally, that would be a great way to try out different tactics and scenarios...

My self, and two of my buddys have started doing some tactical IDPA type shooting, on are own.

It just so happens this Sat. we are all taking a non gun related defense class. After that we may just very well include force on force type exercises.

Get a copy of Gabe Suarez' book on Force on Force Gunfight Training. It is a "how to" book on FOF with airsoft.

FOF is a very good idea; it's very sobering to watch all your trickie-slickie techniques fall apart when you are being attacked by your target and you've had to wait until your target decided to attack.

yep, reaction for attack is slow. Even with training , it is hard to overcome an attack without some injury.
I practice some force on force as well. We even do some senario with use of cover /concealment. Amazing how fast you can get hit.

I did my first simunitions force on force training at the Snubby Summitt a few months ago with Southnarc. The cool thing about the simmunitions is that you can use your own gun, your own gear, etc. Perfect for training with a revolver.

It sure does change your thinking about what a gunfight might be like.

A few of us at work were considering buying Airsoft copies of our SIGs...we were interested in working on skills in our own time, and Airsoft seemed more feasible than sim rounds and the like. We considered some force-on-force and scenario stuff, for which they'd be ideal, but mostly, I'd like to practice instinctive shooting, fiiring from the bent elbow, etc...stuff from the 3-7 yd range. I was figuring this would be an easy way to practice in the house, garage, or backyard, with paper cutout targets or whatever.

Do airsofts keep relatively consistent ballistics inside 7 yds? How do the triggers operate...like a normal DA/SA pistol? Do they feel at all realistic? (We're looking at gas pistols, obviously, not the spring models...)

And do they generally fit in the holsters designed for the real weapons? I just got a nice new horsehide rig, and would want to be able to practice with it...

Thanks,
AX

AgentX,

To answer your questions on the airsofts,
The expensive copies are extremely realistic, fit & finish & wt. in the case of the ones I have seen are exact. to the original,
The good copies will cost in the hundreds, but they are very worth it & will shoot to point of aim within 21 feet.

I really like my 1911 copy as it is an exact copy of my carry firearm.
& it fits in every holster that i own for it.

My Airsoft is a Western Arms , Wilson Combat fullsize copy, I think it cost me a couple hundred when I ordered it.

I play a lot of paintball in mock urban settings. Not sure how much it carries over to my concealed carry weapon and real life application, but it allows you to think more realistically about being shot at and proper use of cover. Plus its fun as hell!

OD, thanks for the advice. I can't find a metal-bodied copy of the SIG 228, but this Tanaka model seems to fit the bill...

WJP9, I think paintball is awesome...I was going to buy myself a Tippman A5 and trick it out a bit, but in the end, I don't see myself having the time to play enough, or a crowd of friends to play it with. As training, I think it's a great tactical tool, but I also think can lead to several bad habits as far as real weapons are concerned, IF you're not conscious of them.

I'll agree with that last part to an extent. You're never going to rip off 20 shots per second in the real world...at least not with a carry piece. Im mostly in it for the fun and get my real practice in at the range.

Yeah, fundamentals like and grip and all really cease to matter without any real recoil, and (especially when you're using cheap rental guns), and there's rarely any use of (or practicality in using) the sights at all...you walk the rounds in. Plus, being able to see the paintballs flying really changes things, as does being able to cover behind thin barriers or even dense foliage.

Still fun as hell, though, and it does teach some good tactical lessons...

I hear you guys. Myself and a few friend do some FOF training we made arrangements with a local Mobile home place to use their lot after hours. In no way is at anything like the real deal but like some have stated it sure shows you that the best laid plan go right in the porcelain god right quick.
