Proposed Michigan bill outlines gun free zones including bars, hospitals, arenas, any venue that seat over 2500 and many more places.

From what I read from the link..this bill would give the MSP the power/authority to freely add to the list of 'gun-free zones'.
(Or am I missing something.)
Since the State Police here have been opposed to CCW and greater 2A liberties from the beginning...this wouldn't be a good thing.
Something to watch.
They should call it truly what it is... Victim filled zones aka Target Rich Environment.

If I am reading this right ,it gives MSP authority to delevop a standard sign indicating which areas are considered "gun free zones", not to decide what is a gun free zone.

I cannot open the bill on my phone, but those locations are already "gun free zones". What does this bill introduce that's new?
If I am ready it right, its still in committee..It will never pass with the current house and senate makeup....
As I read it, this law just alters the current law to allow the MSP to develop a sign.

The listed places are already considered "Gun Free Zones", off limits to:

Open and Concealed carry without a CPL
Concealed carry with a CPL (Open Carry with a CPL is 100% legal in gun free zones)

Strange, that anyone believes these things help keep people safer. Criminals ignore such things; they're largely advertisements for undefended sheep to be slaughtered; and it disarmed the upstanding who keep dancing to avoid being branded "criminal." Makes no sense.

You are correct.
I went to the link and read and reread the bill...and it would seem that it's only authorizing the MSP to make an 'offical' no-gun-zone sign.
But it seems a bit strange that the State Police would be the agency to standardize such signs.
It's difficult not to be suspicious since the MSP have been among the most vocal/effective opponents in the legislative fight to expand our gun rights here in MI.
But it seems a bit strange that the State Police would be the agency to standardize such signs.
I find it stranger that it requires a legislative grant of authority for them to do so. Does this bill grant the new signs authority previous signs don't have? Surely the State Police could have made a sample sign design and promulgated it. It wouldn't have any more authority than any other sign design, but so what?
The people of MI (and actually all states for that matter) should be campaigning to do away with GFZs. After so many high profile cases showing the ineffectiveness against (at the very least) and perhaps even the facilitation of (at the worst) mass violence, I can't believe anyone still believes GFZs are a good idea.
So these areas are by and large already off limilts to carry....Michigan is just determined to advertise them now ......political brilliance.

It's so sad that so many lives have been taken in GFZ's, but the anti gun crowd keeps enforcing them like some sort of magical barrier.

:yup:

It's taken to be some sort of talisman, a magic that'll keep them safe. Yet, it has been proved to be non-existent, false "medicine." It's getting people killed, because it (a) disarms the very people we're seeking to protect and (b) advertises that within these doors exists an undefended sheepish population of targets ripe for the picking. Whatever else can be said, that's an extremely bad combination, all the more stupid and unconscionable because it's done deliberately and unconstitutionally.

It quiets the sheep....shhhhhh.

Yep. Like on so many other gun related issues, politics and personal agendas are getting in the way of saving/protecting human lives.
