I have one and love it.

but i have discovered something that is puzzling to me.

one cannot release the slide with the 13 round mag in it.
but one can release the slide with the extended 16 round mag in it.

when i checked a gun on display the 13 round and the 16 round mag allowed one to release the slide.

but the display 13 round mag when inserted in my gun would not let my slide release...

My question is Any one of you all that own an XD9SC can you release your slide with either your 10 round, 13 round in the gun.
thanks

The spring can be stiff. You should not need to release the slide on an empty magazine. If you must, pull back on the slide a bit to relieve the tension and press the release down. With time the spring will wear a bit and it'll be easier, but I would not worry about it.

My neighbor owns one and both magazines were stiff and it was pretty difficult to release the slide with just the release, but I always pull the slide back to relieve the tension first.

You mean the slide won't go forward with the 13-round mag in the gun? So how are you supposed to fire it then? If I understand your situation correctly, that ain't normal.

It sounds like there may be an issue with your gun since your slide wouldn't release even with the display mag.

I might have tried my 13-rounder in the display gun just to double check, but it sounds like there is an issue with your XD, if I understand your post correctly.

I thought he meant an empty mag. The OP did mention he loved it, assuming he fired it.

I'm in California, so I only have the 10 rounder, but I agree with Grady, the way your post reads, sound abnormal.

Any visible defects on the top of the 13 rounder?

Never had a problem with mine, but I did pinch the meaty part of my hand once when sliding the 16 round mag in. Caught between the handle and mag extension.

let me try to explain this a bit or tad better

if you pull the slide back and lock it (with an empty mag in)
then turn the slide release lever to 12 oclock.

then unlock slide, click the triger the slide doesnt come off, unless there is no mag (only the 10 mag and 13 mag)
when the 16 mag is in the, one can go through the same and the slide will release.

I know one wouldnt i dont believe would do it with a loaded mag. i wouldnt but i just dont understand why the display gun would allow it and one gun wouldnt

but why is that the 10mag and 13 mag wont and the 16 mag will

at my local gun store. they had a new one on display and that gun one could go through to field strip, and the slide would release with either the 13 mag or 16 mag that came with it.
you put my 10 mag or my buddies 13 mag it wouldnt.

i hope this helps....

You're talking about removing the slide completely from the frame, right? Not just closing the slide on an empty magazine? If so, I've never tried it with a magazine in the pistol.

I've never tried to take down the gun with a mag still in place, so I don't know how my gun would do with that test.

I don't think I'll ever try that, either. IMO, it's one step closer to pulling the trigger upon take-down and finding out the gun was still loaded.

ND's happen enough without mags inserted. I will guess having a supposedly empty mag in the gun while pulling the trigger upon takedown will only increase the chances of a negligent discharge.

I took a look and I had the same results. The ten round mag wouldn't allow the slide off, but the sixteen round mag will allow the slide to come off. What I see is the lips of the ten round mags are longer/higher in the back. The part that seems to cock the striker is hitting the back of the ten round, but not the sixteen.

this is exactly what i was wondering.. but unable to get an answer why....
the following is what i received from springfield armory for the answer

Jerry,
Neither is defective, but the magazine should always be removed prior to disassembly.
Dave
