Hi all,

Just received my Maine Non-Resident CCP today. It took 67 days door to door.

Still waiting for Utah which was sent out June 8th, and New Hampshire, which was sent out June 23rd. New Hampshire hasn't even cashed my check yet.

What is the advantage to having multiple state CHLs?
To be able to carry in states that do not recognize your home state permit. Maine only recognizes four state's permits (according to USA Carry). Their own, Louisiana, South Dakota and Delaware. And, other than their own, Maine only recognizes those other three states if you are a resident of those states. So, if you want to be able to carry in Maine and don't live in Louisiana, South Dakota or Delaware, you need a Maine permit.

As further example, if you have a TX resident permit, getting a Utah non-resident permit would add WA, OH & WV to states you can carry in. If you never travel out of your home state or states where your license is recognized, then no need to have others.

Or both :image035:

I have a Maine permit simply because I travel up there each summer. It's our family vacation spot. I have a NH and FL for reciprocal reasons.
I have my home state of VA + non-resident in PA, NH, and now FL.

Is that Maine permit good for all cities and parts of Maine, with exception of course of schools, court houses...ect. How hard and how long to obtain?

From what I could find, the Maine permit is good in all areas of the state except the obvious that you mentioned.

Wasn't hard to obtain, send in paperwork from the state's site with copies of your birth certificate, and any other permits you have.

Receive mine 67 days from the time I sent out application in June.

Maine has pretty strong pre-emption. The laws are uniform. You can't carry in your car w/o a permit and I think schools and courthouses are no go's. Other wise I think you are ok... oh and Baxter State Park is off limits.

No city can ban the carrying of firearms in Maine.

It took my son just over three months to get his NH permit. I think all this hope and change has caused a little increase in demand. It took me only two months from NH in January of 2009.

Got my Maine non-res in about 2 months. Still waiting on NH. Sent it in May27 and they haven't cashed check yet. They are working on the first of may apps now so hopefully won't be too much longer.
