Recoil Spring?? Glock

I recently bought a G27. It turns out my first trip at the range wasn't so problem free as i thought. I had a failure to feed my first trip which I thought i caused by bumping the magazine release. Since i automatically hit the magazine release to clear the jam, I couldn't tell if i actually hit it before the ftf or not. Now that it has happened a second time and the magazine was firmly seated, i'm pretty sure it wasn't from me hitting the release.

I Called Glock they said continue to fire it if it happens "some more" they will send out a new recoil spring.

It is a new pistol with new magazines i am loading to the 9 even though its a hard 9 but the ftf is happening after 2 or 3 rounds. Should i just send in for a new spring now or see if it "loosens up" and fixes it self. Any other things that i should be checking for?

Shot 200 rounds of American 180gr and 21 critical duty.

Whoops, misread your post so I edited out my old reply and will offer this:

Yeah, just put some more rounds through it and change your type of ammo just to see if the ammo is part of the problem. If you see it with any other type of ammunition, then call Glock and ask for a new RSA and start your testing over.

I'll have to give that a try with the different brand. That being said i never owned a glock wouldn't flawlessly shoot anything i fed it. Except for the G36, but i couldn't ever tell if it was me or the gun with fte. Sold the gun and yes i explained the issues i had to the buyer to those that would of lit me up for passing on the problem if there was one. Just disappointing getting a gun that has issues.

Is it a gen4? although we may have different recoil springs i have never ever had one single issue with my g26 and I use only the cheapest ammo from Wal-Mart. I would consider insisting they send a new one now. It may take a long time.

Oh I totally agree and, for the most part, I can't say that I've ever had a problem with a Glock not liking any ammunition. To be clear, though, 99% of my ammunition is hand loaded, so there could be a problem with some particular manufactured ammunition and I would be the last guy to know about it. Feed it a couple hundred rounds of anything different and see what happens. If you get a 100% success rate then move on and try out your SD ammunition and see how that goes. If you have any other problems, then I'd ask for a new spring and head back to the range. Hopefully it's just an odd ammo thing and you'll run fine with everything else, but I guess you'll never know until you try.

Hmmm, mag release, recoil spring, tight mag springs...

I think you cross off accidental mag release.

A brand new Glock is hard to imagine recoil spring issue, but that is really easy to test.

How well are your slide rails lubed?
Feed ramp have any rough spots?
Does the mag follower stick?

Everything is smooth actually cleaning it now. I generally just put a drop on the guide rails on the frame and rack it a few times.

It is Gen 3 looks like its got a newer recoil spring don't remember having the medal piece between the springs.

I did notice you can move the inner spring from side to side really easily don't know if thats normal or not.

I didn't think of the ammo being old it's possible hauling what ever they have out of the warehouse to fill demand.

Last cleaning was this past Sunday when i lubed.

when i first bought my new g23 gen 3. the first two or three range times i shot about 100 rounds each time it jammed up once each time 3 different range trips. i think the spring needed breaking in cuz its has never jammed up since and its 3 months old

Had you cleaned it before you took it out to the range? Glock sends 'em out with all that copper gunk in the slide rails. If you didn't give it a good cleaning before you took it out to the range, that might have been a small part of the issue right there.

Didn't clean it before the range how ever i did clean it after and before the last time i shot when i had the second problem. I did notice there was still a bit of copper junk in the front corner i missed from the first cleaning. i did a more thorough clean this time. I'm going to the range tomorrow hopefully i won't have anymore problems.

The Gen3 and Gen4 recoil springs are the same on the G26/G27. I've shot more than a dozen different factory loads on mine and only had problems with one box of USA ammo (the white box Winchester stuff) - three rounds in two boxes (3%) failed to fire even though there was a strong firing pin indent on the primer.

The only problem I've had with one of my Glocks (a Gen4 G22) had to do with a bad factory magazine. I was at a four-day training course and had a few failure to feeds. After the second time I marked the magazine. On the third failure (unfortunately during final testing - something that kept me from reaching the "distinguished" level) I saw that it was the same mag, marked it as "bad" with a marker and have not used it since. Visually it is slightly off compared to the other mags, but functionally it made a huge difference. I've put close to 2,000 rounds through that pistol since then and haven't had any problems at all.

So, a bad magazine or limp wristing are really the two things I would think are more probable than a bad recoil spring.

I like the replies you got from everyone above. I had a quick question though. What is the date of manufacture on your Glock? Reportedly Glocks made prior to December 2012 had the old RSA that had to be replaced with the new version. The other possibilities pointed out Cn262 are quite valid. I watched a fellow police officer completely FUBAR a Glock's operation by limp wristing it. Bad mags can also turn one into an expensive single shot pistol.

Looks like they test fired it on 5/5/2012 Cinco de Mayo maybe the tester was drunk lol. I don't know if my spring was replaced or not. It looks like a new style spring it has a medal piece between the inner and outer springs.

No, it wasn't replaced, none of them from that time frame were so they established a replacement policy. You have the old spring system. You can contact Glock and give them the serial number of your pistol and they will send you a new one.

Hmmm... I don't like the sound of that seeing as how I have Gen 4 Glock 19 on layaway! It will be my third Glock 19 (first Gen 4) and 10th Glock overall. Not a single one has ever had any failure whatsoever. I waited this long hoping all the bugs had been worked out of the Gen 4 models. Here's hoping!

I wouldn't be overly concerned, I've had a Gen 4 19 for over a year and it's been flawless with no parts replacement whatsoever.

From what i read the recall was for Gen 4 and excluded the 26/27. Mine is a gen 3

Gen 3 G19 fan here! I didn't know what all that copper-colored possum-snot was. I've bought quite a few new handguns & never saw it before. I just decided I'd go with the devil I knew. Before I shot it, I cleaned the crap outta' than gun, re-lubed with a light touch & (~30K rounds later) not a single FTF/FTE. Good luck!
