Over two years ago I started building a custom Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag. Unfortunately, all the bugs still haven't been worked out. On every fourth or fifth shot, the case will not extract and a sliver of brass is shaved off of the top of the rim (presumably by underside of the extractor). Once the bolt is closed, that's it, the case is stuck, weather it gets fired or not. I took it to the gunsmith and he said there was a burr in the chamber (surprising, given that it's a Douglas match barrel) and removed it. Today I took it to the range for the first time after getting it back and a case got stuck on the second shot. at this point my options are: 1. Spend $200+ to have the local gunsmith install a sako style or M-16 style extractor or 2. Sell the gun and hope to get $1200+ to buy a new Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Does anybody have any ideas as to what's causing this, or if it's even worth looking into?
