Hi All,

I hope I am posting in the correct forum, but heck if I can find a dedicated IDPA forum anywhere. :gah:

A quick question from a true IDPA newbie (me) about a IDPA rule for revolvers that has me completely stumped (FYI: I have never seen a IDPA revolver match as yet) :blink::

The IDPA rules state that you can fire "as many shots as desired" during the match, but that you may only carry "a total of three
speedloaders/full moon clips on the belt". So, with only three speedloaders available, you will be limited to a maximum of 24 revolver shots; yet I got back from a semi-auto IDPA competition in Arkansas a while back, and the competitors were carrying about six mags on their belt, and throwing a heck of a lot of lead downrange…

So what am I missing about this three speedloaders limit in a IDPA revolver match versus firing "as many shots as desired"?

But that seems pretty unfair, considering that I saw the semi-auto IDPA folks carrying five to six 10-round mags on their belts. And given the other obvious disadvantages to revolver re-loading, it seems like I'm not interpreting this revolver speedloader rule properly... :tumbleweed:

If the Semi-auto guys had 6 mag on their belts, there is an issue. They are allowed only 3 mags loaded to division cacapity plus a barney mag. So it is 1 in the chamber plus max 10 in the gun and 2 10 round max reloads. Having 24 rounds is not a disadvantage as IDPA stages are a max of 18 rounds.

As Paul said, the semi-auto guys are only allowed to use three mags (including the one that starts in the gun) plus one round in the chamber. This means 31 or 25 rounds, depending on which division they're shooting, so revolver users aren't at a huge disadvantage (particularly compared to the CDP guys shooting 1911s).

The guys with 6 mags on their belt may just be carrying those to avoid having to stuff rounds into mags between every stage.
