So I recently came across the Ruger 57, and I find it interesting, but I have a couple "concerns".

1.) It's pretty pricey for a handgun.
2.) It uses a rather unique caliber, so there's no real overlap.
3.) I'm not sure where it "fits": is it capable of being defensive, is it mostly a plinker or target competition gun?

Just wondered what everyone thought.

Thanks.

Its way less then a FN 5.7 or a PS90 lol ...

The org point of this round was to go through soviet titanium body armor at I think 200 or 300 yards ..And be a light and easy to use and shoot gun for tankers etc ...

Its point is well it is a fun light round and now that finally gold dot is making HP ammo for it a good carry gun ..Very HV rounds ... I would have no problem with it as a carry gun with either red box ammo or gold dots I belive they can mount a rmr so as a comp gun decent ...Plinker eh eagle ammo has gone up for them

Oh and the antis hate it ..They have more then once tried to ban the round by name lol

I am a big fan of 5.7 ammo ..It is a unique round and very fast moving

I had an FNH 5.7 and an AR-5.7. They were fun range toys. I would never carry one for self defense. The high velocity gives them about the energy of a .38 special.
