A good buddy offered to trade me his 642 for my 340PD. I stoke the 340PD with Winchester 158 grain +P's not .357 mags rounds. Both guns are in mint condition and although I paid a couple hundo's more for the 340PD I'm considering the trade for a few of reasons:
The S&W 642.....
1. Has no ILS.
2. Is stainless for lower maintenance against moisture, perspiration.
3. A couple ounces heavier to soften recoil but still light enough for carry comfort (ankle and pocket).
4. loads what I'm carrying - 38 +p's. I've run about 40 rounds of .357 through the 340PD but I found it cheaper to just whack the web area of my hand with a brass mallet.
The 340PD is a pleasure to carry, especially with the CT LG-405 grips (bought separately) and the HiViz sights are great during the day but that 642 is calling my name. Oh, my buddy's gonna throw in a few bucks too (?). What do you all think?
I have the 340 M&P with the steel cylinder. I wouldn't trade it for many things.
But if I had the PD model and wasn't using .357 ammo and wasn't likely to start - I'd trade the PD for the 642 in a heartbeat - especially considering there is a little cash thrown in with it.
Steel cylinder and no lock are a very big deal IMO.
I hope you aren't throwing in the CT405's though. Then I wouldn't - unless the 642 also had them.
Keep the CT's, make the deal, get rid of the lock, and buy some ammo!
The couple extra ounces actually make the 642 easier to shoot. AND DON"T FORGET, GET RID OF THE LOCK!!!
I wouldn't trade a 340PD for a 642 its not worth it. I say this as
I own a 340 M&P and love its three times the gun the 642 is and its worth more as well. My 340 M&P costs me $650 and the titanium cylinder version you have runs a couple to a few hundred dollars more then the M&P version. Think about it you would be trading a $900+ gun for a $450 gun,not a good trade off in my book just my opinion of course hope it helps you out in your decision.
