The Santa Fe City Council is currently considering an ordinance that would ban the future possession, sale or transfer of any ammunition feeding device that accepts, or can be readily converted to accept, more than ten rounds.
Santa Fe City Council considers magazine ban in "City Different" - Albuquerque Firearms | Examiner.com

Now according to Wiki New Mexico has preemption: Gun laws in New Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The question would be is how the heck the city thinks they are going to get around this, or are they going to try and say preemption only covers firearms and not magazines.

That's stupid.

Has anyone forced the preemption issue before?

We have had several cities and counties in Florida try but the State always wins.

Went through this very same scenario right here in my own home town with clueless city councilmen.

They thought it'd be a good idea to outlaw guns from the city parks, because of the "children".

Even got a lawyer to tell them that the law didn't really mean what it said. Sound familiar?

It took a bit of maneuvering and dialogue from the state capitol to get them to understand that they were basically a bunch of educated idiots that couldn't understand plain language and to make them understand that just because a lawyer said something didn't make it so. They had no choice but to give it up...not from lack of trying though.

Stay vigilant. Use the system to your advantage and never let up. Give them copies of the "law" and try to enlighten them. It usually dosent work with all knowing self righteous prima donnas but at least you can say that you tried before they force you break if off in them.
