I was watching a brief segment of America's Funniest Videos with my daughter last night. The segment was showing Halloween pranks that some people did to try and scare others. Some of them were pretty darn funny. But there was one where a guy opened a door and, in an attempt to make him :banned: in his pants, another guy, in a hockey mask burst out the door and came running at him. Ya, it was funny as the door opener went running backwards screaming like the dickens, but I fear if it happened to someone on this forum, that guy might have been shot as it looked like a real life threatening situation.

Fortunately no one got hurt in these videos. I guess the moral of the story is know your target.

I always think about this! The girlfriend loves America's Funniest Home Videos and there's a lot of that going on. I guess you only play pranks on people you KNOW (100% for a fact) don't carry... but still... not a good idea.

Two years ago I opened the door when the bell rang and saw a kid standing their.

I was about to tell them, "Can I help you?" when someone off to the side out of my field of view yanked open my screen door while wearing a black mask and shirt.

I didn't even think about what I did. I slammed the main door shut, stepped back 2 steps angling back to my left and the next thing I see is three tritium dots floating in my vision thinking "If that door twitches I'm opening fire...".

I'm standing their for about 3 seconds, gun out, ready to GET IT ON.

Then I realized "Oh...tonight is halloween, and I had construction going on, which people confused as lights for trick or treaters..."

Coulda had a .45ACP "oops"

That's what happenes when you are a work-aholic and forget holidays.

Happy Halloween, people.

Halloween is NOT a "holiday". I'll be darned if I'll support it. "NO candy" signs on my door and unanswered doorbells gets the point across. This is a pagan celebration... I am not a pagan. Live with it.

Most people grow out of the "scared-them-silly" kind of pranks. Fortunately, none of my friends are that stupid anymore. Blame it all on stupid TV shows like Punked and Scare Tactics and I'm sure there are others. I really wonder how many of those scenarios actually end with the prankster getting their back side kicked?

Hopefully most.

I wonder how many tapes we do not see which end with a guy side stepping to cover, drawing a mini-glock or a bud nealy fixed blade, and a producer running over shouting "NO NO...STAND DOWN!!! IT'S JUST A PRANK!!!"

Way way way back in the day when I was an LEO my wife and I went to Universal Studios in Orlando around Halloween and went into their haunted house. Some guy grabbed me from behind and I took him down and held him on the ground in an arm bar (I wasn't carrying by the way).

They were going to kick us out until I spoke to the park director and told her what happened. She understood why I did what I did and said they are NEVER supposed to touch you in their haunted houses.

I saw a video on TV awhile ago where a cop put on a halloween mask outside his precinct in an attempt to scare his buddy.

The buddy walked out the door and they first guy jumped out and yelled.

The victim cop screamed like a little girl and fell/ran backwards through the door.

But my first thought was... How stupid is it to scare a guy who has a gun on his hip.

I use to tell people not to try to scare me, because I stab blindly around corners when going through the house. Now that I have a gun, I no longer stab around corners...I shoot!! JK

Just this past weekend I went on a trip back to my alma mater in the mtns of NC. We were staying with a group of 10 people... when we got there one of our friends called and said he wouldn't be coming up 'til early saturday am. no problem. 'bout an hour later we heard sounds coming from the basement... I started to get a little creeped out and we decided to see what we could find in the basement... actually a couple people said "Ahhh there's nothing in the basement" and trudged downstairs to prove us all wrong...

At the time I was thinking "what if some homeless guy made the basement of this rental house his home and we find some real threat downstairs.."

so when we got down there we did find that there was a person in the basement and with my wife screaming I put my hand on my G26 ready to draw but as I did so the guy threw back the hoodie he was wearing to reveal himself laughing and at that point i realized it was the friend that "said" he would be coming saturday...

All I can say is... I assessed the threat and did not draw because I didn't know if our lives were in danger... BOY am I glad I didn't draw... None of our friends know I carry.

PS - I'm wondering now if people thought "hey why does he have his hand down his pants?"

Just tell them that when you get scared, you stick your hand down your pants.

If your not going to celebrate any pagan holliday's, you better do some research. Christmas, Easter, ect...

when i was a teenager i work at busch garden in the howl scream part during the fall. We had very strict rules to protect are selfs and are guest. we were to not touch any guest for any reason what so ever. i did see where grown men would get scared because some one jumped out at them and the worker would get hit in the face or something to this affect. It happens a lot. Just remember this is a holiday were people dress up and do crazy things so just see how the situation plays out before any thing drastic happens.
