Actually I need all you blade afficianados to point me in the right direction to the most bombproof set of shears out there. I am really tired of sub par cheapies.

I am willing to pay out but I am also open to good values.

There is not going to be heavy cutting involved. I just want them to cut when I ask them too.

Yes, the most heavy duty cutting they may get is when I wrap presents this year.....and hopefully every other year.

Fiscars make good stuff all around. I second the sewing shop if you are looking to cut paper and light duty stuff. If you want a good heavy duty set of shears, not for cutting paper nice and neatly. I have a Cutco set that has been going since '91. Heavy paper, wire, bird wings, squirrel paws, assorted fish parts, cuts a penny in half, I could probably hammer a nail with them if the handle was bigger. Blades come apart to clean them too. LOVE them!

Search Ebay for Victorinox Kitchen Scissors. They have hardened blades.
They work great for all general purpose scissor cutting tasks.

Also the LISTER BANDAGE SCISSORS with tungsten carbide inserts are great go-bag scissors.

Thank you for the responses so far.
My family knows I like my blades and my mom asked for some good kitchen scissors and she knows I always go over the top on seemingly trivial things like shears.
